Golf,
Come on...you really made that from a GI Joe? And that's just today's work? You did a fantastic job! You may have found your calling. Great job on his clothes and the 'stache is perfect. Throw some hair on his chest and I think that's the best Magnum figure I have seen yet! I like the setting you chose for him. He is too cool standing in the potted plant. His girlfriend is pretty hot too!
I think my son has a red remote control ferrari (gee-wonder who bought that for him?) that is just his size. If you want it, it's yours!

Re: action figure?
I love the artwork they created for the box, with Magnum apparently doing some type of kata.golfmobile wrote:Magnum and Ferrari

I'm in trouble. Now I'm getting REALLY silly with this "action figure" I've created. ("I've created a monster!")
Here's Magnum with a couple of little girls who danced at the luau:

Can you tell this is a potted Hawaiian ti plant? I thought that was a fairly decent substitute for palm trees, though I DO have a plumeria downstairs -- for more pictures later.

Then he takes a break from the luau and "sits one out":

I already have fabric picked out to make him another shirt tomorrow.
But what I need help with: Women's clothes! I've looked through all the pictures here and racked my memory, and I can't remember a single outstanding female "fashion" from the series. The women all seemed to be wearing very casual, not particularly distinctive clothes -- mostly just drapey, muslin-type dresses. I can't think of anything particularly outstanding. Someone point me in the right direction so I can make a dress for one of my Mme. Alexander Cissettes (the first teenage hula girl pictured with him in the first post showing Action Magnum) and pose her with him. I need to watch Texas Lightning again -- maybe that black formal Julie Sommars wore. Which is the episode with the lady who liked Higgins best where she's carrying the Japanese parasol? I have a drink umbrella I can put with a Cissette in some gauzy cream dress, I guess. Any suggestions? Okay, guys, no bikinis -- doll joints show up too much when the doll is semi-nude! (Though I'm thinking of putting one in a bikini just so I can make a diorama of him holding her for the "snorkel" eye-roll scene!)

OK. I think we found our new mascot! Loved the new poses. Can't wait to see the new shirt. Do you think his shorts should be shorter though
? Can't wait to see your beach pics. Is there a kid in the neighborhood with a sandbox you can borrow?
The only thing I can think of in terms of women's clothes back then is really big shoulder pads and definately big hair! Sorry I could not be of more help...

Oh, man. I'm dying here! You turned a G.I. Joe into Magnum! And he's hanging out with Lilo in a potted plant! LOL! Awesome!!
What a wonderful, fun way to be creative. And it puts those old, never-used toys to use. It turned out remarkably well! It actually looks like Magnum! I would definitely add some rug to his chest, if you can though.
golf, if you have some old Barbies lying around, you dress her up as Diane Dupres (as Diedre Dupres) from Echoes of the Wind. A quintessential 80s look if there ever was one. The Barbie doll itself would look like Sharon Stone, so all you would need to do is come up the clothes (which I know would be hard). Heh, just a thought.
Hmm, I wonder if I still have my old Action Jackson figure somewhere. He kind of looks like Magnum, too.
Action Jackson is his name. Bold adventure is his game!

layne,
Yes, you are correct: the short ARE too long - but it was my first effort at making pants for "GI Magnum," so I thought better too much than too little (lol -- there's nothing untoward to show if they had turned out too short -- so much for anatomically correct -- sorry, let's not go THERE!) I'll work on a new, shorter pair of khaki shorts for him. The problem on this GI Joe figure is that his THIGHS are so BIG -- a la Schwartzenegger? -- compared to his hips and waist that the shorts had to be rather too large to be able to slide up over his thighs. Still working on finding some kind of sandbox for a beach and surf snorkel picture, but I may end up "PhotoShop"-ping that idea -- overlaying a picture of "GI Magnum" and one of my Cissette dolls onto the original picture background.
James, I have NO Barbies (as my Mme. Alexander doll collecting friends would react, "Bite your tongue!" We collect ONLY Mme. Alexander dolls -- Barbie is heresy!). But I have enough Cissettes (and they have bendable knees that Barbie doesn't have, so I can bend Cissette's knees to illustrate the kicking while swimming), and I can dress them up. But I think I'll need to view "Echoes of the Wind" again to get a good idea of any of Sharon Stone's dresses (unless you want to PM me some full view pictures of some of her clothes. I can copy something, but I need to see what I'm trying to copy first! Duh!)
SL, the shirt I made today DID NOT work the way I wanted it to. I was so over-compensating after making the first red floral shirt yesterday too small that I got carried away in making the shirt today -- and it's too big. So it has just become his "happy coat" (short, hip-length, Japanese version of a robe) (didn't he wear one of these in one episode? Can't remember which one right now . . . or did he always put on a full-length terry-cloth robe?):

Hubba, hubba! What legs! Still, the floral prints on this fabric were spaced a little too far from each other to make a good shirt, so I dug through some of my hope chests of fabric I've had around for years and found at least three other fabric swatches with more potential for closely spaced flowers -- now I know what I'll be doing for the next several evenings! I also found some fake-denin print fabric so I can make some jeans for him without having to deal with the thick, real denin -- which is tough to work with on such a small scale.
Soooooooooooooooooooooo, more "Magnum Fashions" to come over the next week or so. I'm still on the hunt for a baseball/gimme cap that'll fit this "action figure" . . . . .
This is so silly -- and so much fun! (for me, anyway) Just WAIT till you see what I come up with as pictures to represent "Basket Case"!

Golf,
OK..say no more. Didn't realize GI Magnum was anatomically correct. Maybe the shorts are fine the length they are
! I think photoshop would be great for your beach pics, but for some reason I love the pics you took of GIMag hanging out at your house in the house plants etc...
Did you ever hear the story of the garden gnome statue that was stolen from this guys front yard? He thought he would never see it again. Then one day he started getting pics of his gnome in the mail. The pics where from all these other countries with his little gnome posing in front of all these land marks like the effiel tower etc. The pics were hilarious and the gnome was eventually returned anonymously to it's original owner no worse for wear. What I'm getting at is maybe GIMag needs to go with you other places. Not fancy vacation places, but maybe the grocery store, dentist office, doctor office, restaurants etc. How fun would it be to see GIMag "hanging out" in other day-to-places!
I know I'm crazy-and like you said this is silly, but your house plant pics were too much fun to stop at. I need to see more. Keep the new shirt. It would make a nice robe. Love the hip length. Can't wait for the Basket Case pics!

ROTFLMAO!!!!!! No, GI Magnum is NOT anatomically correct! That's why the not-being-short-shorts really didn't matter -- they could have been short -- I just didn't have a pattern to make them with. I'm making all these clothes with no pattern.
But I love, love, LOVE your idea of GI Magnum going everywhere with me. Gotta do it! Of course, I might be doing it from jail (when they lock me up for taking pictures everywhere -- it's bound to offend someone!) or the funny farm (when THEY lock me up!).
But . . . . you're on!

Wow golf! As someone else posted earlier, you have truly missed your calling! Excellent job on the clothes!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but regarding the gnome thing.....if my memory serves me correctly, I believe that someone stole the gnome and MAILED it to someone and that person was instructed to take a picture and send it to the original owner, and then mail the gnome on to someone else, and so on. That's how the gnome made it into different countries, etc. Then when the gnome finally made it back to the original thief, he returned it to the owner. I suppose that all the people that it was mailed to had to be in on it, so it wouldn't "get lost" in the mail.
I can't wait to see the pictures of where GI Magnum gets to go...it ought to be interesting!

Awesome Golf. The pictures you posted are great. First there was Zeus and Apollo...Now there's SUNDANCE.
I can just hear Magnum say while trying to pick the lock of the Ferrari: Don't look at the cat, look at the lock...you looked at the cat.

The answer is obvious, old man. Logic is irrelevant. It's simply Tropical Madness. (J.Q. Higgins)

LOL! Too funny! A day in the life of Magnum, g.i.!
How about this, one of the Mme. Alexander dolls is found dead in the hallway, an obvious victim of foul play. The leader of the Mme. Alexander dolls has hired Magnum, g.i. to solve the case. The Cissettes have been feuding with the Mme. Alexander dolls for years, and are acting suspicious. But Sundance, the mysterious, exotic cat, was found with a piece of cloth in his mouth and doesn't have an alibi for the night in question. Magnum's on it, but will he be able to solve this crime in time?

Ok, ok, I got carried away there. Don't mind me, carry on....
Oh, golf, here's the Diane Dupres photo you requested:

Hi, all,
I'm really irritated with myself. On the way home, I drove past a SPECTACULAR car fire (well, actually, it was a red pickup truck) -- and I didn't think to grab Magnum GI and stick him up on the dash to take a picture for "Magnum GI Investigates a Suspicious Car Fire." Drat, drat, drat!!! You know I'll never get that particular chance again.
James, thanks for the picture of Sharon Stone/Diedre. I'll start work on an outfit for a Cissette. And, frankly, I LOVED your plotline! I just have to figure out which Cissette I'm willing to drench in catsup to set the scene. Of course, it might be less gory to hang her, but it can't be suicide because the rope bruising angles down instead of up. Hmmmm . . . . Magnum G.I. is on the case! Give me a few days to work up the storyboard.
Stay tuned! I still have some "props" coming my way that I might need to use.
