A truly vile individual comes knocking on your door...

#1 Post by ZelenskyTheValiant (Ivan) »

You open the door and this terrible human being demands that you hand over all your DVD copies of MAGNUM PI. :o What do you do??! Well, you break out into a nervous sweat and then start begging this merciless beast to spare you this misfortune. :( Finally, this scoundrel agrees to a bargain. From each disc which typically holds 4 episodes you may choose 2 which you can keep. The other 2 have to go bye-bye. If only 2 episodes are on a disc then you can only keep 1. :( Oh, well. I guess it's better than nothing. :?

So from the following season 1 discs (let's do season 1 first) which 2 episodes do you keep? My choices are below. If this sounds somewhat like a desert island scenario then you might be onto something.

Season 1, Disc 1
------------------------
Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii, Part 1 (keep)
Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii, Part 2 (keep)
China Doll (bye-bye)
Thank Heaven for Little Girls and Big Ones Too (bye-bye)

Season 1, Disc 2
------------------------
No Need to Know (keep)
Skin Deep (bye-bye, hate to lose this one)
Never Again... Never Again (keep)

Season 1, Disc 3
------------------------
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii (bye-bye)
Missing in Action (keep)
Lest We Forget (keep)
The Curse of the King Kamehameha Club (bye-bye)

Season 1, Disc 4
------------------------
Thicker Than Blood (keep)
All Roads Lead to Floyd (bye-bye)

Season 1, Disc 5
------------------------
Adelaide (bye-bye)
Don't Say Goodbye (keep)
The Black Orchid (keep)

Season 1, Disc 6
------------------------
J. "Digger" Doyle (keep)
Beauty Knows No Pain (bye-bye)

Well, the same applies to your Blu-Ray. The man wants to take away episodes from your Blu-Ray. So make your picks!

If some have only two episode why you say bye bye to one?

Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii, Part 1
Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii, Part 2

No Need to Know
Never Again... Never Again

Lest We Forget
The Curse of the King Kamehameha Club

Thicker Than Blood
All Roads Lead to Floyd

Don't Say Goodbye
The Black Orchid

J. "Digger" Doyle
Beauty Knows No Pain
Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

Good picks, T.Q. :) Yeah the rules are that if there are only 2 episodes on a disc then you can only keep 1. Can't keep both of 'em. If there are 3 or 4 episodes then you can keep 2.

Alright, we move on to season 2. Make your picks! Again as a reminder, if there are only 2 episodes on a disc then you can only pick 1. Otherwise you can pick 2.

Season 2, Disc 1
------------------------
Billy Joe Bob (keep)
Dead Man's Channel (bye-bye) -- the kudu buck subplot is great so I'll hate losing that, but otherwise I prefer "Billy Joe Bob"

Season 2, Disc 2
------------------------
The Woman on the Beach (bye-bye)
From Moscow to Maui (keep)
Memories are Forever (keep)

Season 2, Disc 3
------------------------
Tropical Madness (bye-bye)
Wave Goodbye (bye-bye)
Mad Buck Gibson (keep)
The Taking of Dick McWilliams (keep)

Season 2, Disc 4
------------------------
The Sixth Position (bye-bye)
Ghost Writer (bye-bye)
The Jororo Kill (keep)
Computer Date (keep)

Season 2, Disc 5
------------------------
Try to Remember (keep)
Italian Ice (keep)
One More Summer (bye-bye) -- worst one of the season!
Texas Lightning (bye-bye)

Season 2, Disc 6
------------------------
Double Jeopardy (keep)
The Last Page (keep)
The Elmo Ziller Story (bye-bye)
Three Minus Two (bye-bye)

Well this is anticlimactic.

Virtually same list I ended up with except for Disc 6.

There goes getting into a huge pointless argument over something today.

Hope you are well.

How far have you progressed?

Billy Joe Bob

Season 2, Disc 2

Memories are Forever

Season 2, Disc 3

Wow, it's amazing how closely aligned our picks are. For sure I thought you would have gone with "Dead Man's Channel" over "Billy Joe Bob". Everyone seems to dog on "Joe Bob" for being too hick or too hillbilly. I always liked it and I've always liked James Whitmore, Jr. It also helps that it was probably the first Magnum episode I ever saw somewhere in the mid-90s. But yeah everyone seems to love "Dead Man's Channel". It's not bad but honestly the highlight for me is the kudu buck subplot (possibly the best in the series) but the rest of the curse stuff involving the channel is kinda lame. The underwater scenes and accompanying music by Mike Post are nice but it's derailed when Magnum (a trained SEAL) basically gets into a life-and-death underwater struggle with a guess who -- a middle-aged female university professor (someone you wouldn't even expect to be down there trying to knife our hero to death). That part never made sense to me. Isn't that what henchmen are for? :)

Also I was surprised that you didn't pick "The Woman on the Beach" which everyone seems to rave about. I was never too crazy about the ghost story and prefer more realistic episodes. Yeah she was pretending to be someone else but at the end on the beach it's suggested that she really was a ghost. I mean it doesn't bother me too much and it's not a bad episode but I just prefer the others on disc 2. And again my favorite part about the episode is actually the subplot with Kenneth Mars playing Josef, the German cemetery caretaker. He was funny!

And then your pick of "Dick McWilliams" from disc 3 surprised me because it seems NOBODY likes that episode lol. Or at least that's what the reviews for that episode seem to suggest. And NOBODY ever brings it up or talks about it. :? Except you and me right here and right now.

Billy Joe Bob was a better story whether people likes the character or not.

Woman on the Beach I could never get over the actress’s acting (over-acting).

Dick Williams was a good story. Don’t know why people wouldn’t like it. 🤷‍♂️
