Thanks Mandy! That’s interesting to know. Tall guy sports makes sense. I wonder if he played tennis too? Another sport where height is a big advantage.MandyIsA10 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 3:53 am Tom played two years at USC on the hoops team. 1965-66 and 1966-67 seasons. Played in 7 games total. No stats from what I can Google. He did get a scholarship for basketball at USC after a stint at a junior college. This info is probably on here somewhere. I apologize if my info is redundant. I think he played volleyball there too.

I knew he was a volleyball fan, and not just the beach variety from the series, but I had never heard that he played at SC. Two sport athletes at the D-1 level is highly unusual. As I commented on previously, he was spotted at several volleyball games at the Long Beach Arena during the 1984 Olympics. I saw a game there myself as a middle school student during those Olympics. LA residents couldn’t select tickets to most events. It was sort of a lottery system and you got what you got. We saw Italy (I think) play Canada so my dad was excited even though Canada lost.Styles Bitchley wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 4:13 pmThanks Mandy! That’s interesting to know. Tall guy sports makes sense. I think he played club volleyball at usc. Men’s volleyball back then wasn’t a big thing. I’ll have to dig some more on that. No pun intended on the dig comment/volleyball

Yes, I think the NCAA men’s volleyball championship started in the late 60’s or early 70’s. UCLA dominated in the first two decades under Al Scates. They won near twenty titles until he retired several years ago, and none since. Long Beach State, where I got my postgrad, won the last two years before the pandemic. They have a great arena called the Pyramid that I’ve been to for many games, men’s and women’s volleyball and basketball.

Lol. I think we found the answers. No need for google. Good stuff. TS is like 6’4” which is small for a college basketball player now. But in the early sixties that was a decent size college basketball player.

The BIG game is on today with the Midshipman leading the series 62-53-7.
Enjoy the game!

Enjoy the game!

That's EXCELLENT Chris-well done!!

As for the dialogue P.....Higgins does play the spoiler, telling TM who won of the Army - Navy game. I'm not sure what the score of that game was though.
I better update the series record to (62-54-7).

The tape in the episode is from November 1983 as the announcers note it's being played in Pasadena, that game was 42-13 Navy.KENJI wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 11:01 pmThat's EXCELLENT Chris-well done!!![]()

Navy 31
Army 13
My West Point grad nephew will be in mourning, best to wait till the morrow to rag on him. On the other hand my cousin's kid went to Annapolis, it's only 20 minutes past
midnight so I know he and his buddies will still be pounding down the beers.
