Great point. I hadn't thought about the complexity being introduced here.

Yes! That was in my "notes" that I lost. ;-) It's kinda weird right? Seems almost like someone pointed out that the law says that you need to have those on when you're flying between islands. Wonder if that's true? If so, they clearly abandoned their commitment to that after this episode.

Speaking of choppers, I've been listening to Bill Burr's podcast lately and he's not only hilarious, but an aspiring helicopter pilot. He's actually mentioned the Hughes 500D a few times, calling it the "Magnum PI" helicopter. Just a random thought...

I wonder if it had to do with Robert Van Der Kar's death in Skin Deep earlier in the season?

Not high on my list but it has a few scenes I enjoy. The Rolls Royce arrival and Higgins rambling on to the driver is amusing as is his explanation about how black orchids can’t exist. TM trying to do a Sam Spade impression is funny as he seems so uncomfortable and awkward. I also always find amusing the scene where Louise marvels in the morning at the incredible technology of the thermos!?!?!

My brain is scrambled.

New rule: There is a strict 6 day cut-off for posting about the current episode.

No exceptions... except for maybe Conch... and Pahonu... and Styles... and Ivan...

Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

Indeed there is a lapse that might be confusing. I thought I’d have more time this weekend to squeeze in this weeks episode but I’ve been more busy than I thought! Will have to wait.

There’s so many little things to like in this episode beyond the actual plot ...and Erin Gray :D . I enjoy Robin’s dictations for his book referencing Paris in the interwar years and comparing a label on a bottle of Lafitte Rothschild to .... Selleck’s first wife makes an appearance. We hear about Robin’s other homes around the world and he makes an actual appearance at the estate. I love Higgins comments in his drugged condition and his embarrassment afterward. Magnum’s “shut up” on the Haiku Valley Ladder is fantastic. Higgins intrusion and ridiculous story in the final scene is also wonderful. My personal favorite is Rick’s multiple fruit juice diet where he adds Vodka “for flavor”. My wife even knows this joke as it became our parent code meaning our drink had alcohol in it. When our kids were younger we would use it that way. “Would you like a flavored drink honey?

This episode also has to be the biggest source for so many of the misconceptions about Robin’s Nest and it’s size compared to Pahonu in reality. Higgins describes it as 500 acres when it’s just three! There’s the impression given that Higgins and Digger drive around in the Jimmy to all the corners of the vast estate in their security check. One could walk from one corner of the estate to the other in two or three minutes perhaps. Then there’s the map. Oh, the inaccuracy of that map! I’ve commented on in detail elsewhere but kudos to production for selling the viewers on the myth of Robin’s Nest. Fans still believe it 40 years later. :D

J "Digger" Doyle

I really enjoyed this episode. A few notes:

-My favorite episodes always seem to spotlight the "two" Magnums. The guy who doesn't take himself or anything too seriously vs the shrewd calculating operator. Both are on full display here. Magnum's carefree side is exploited by Digger to gain access to the estate. His resulting anger with her seems to come more from his complicated sense of loyalty to Higgins than his own personal embarrassment at being fooled. Magnum's shrewd side sees through the thieves' plan and he cleverly devises one of his own to foil them with one "Magnum" wrinkle. As Digger points out at the end, trusting her was not the logical choice. Magnum trusting his instinct and feel is a large part of what makes the character so enjoyable.

-The dialogue in this episode is a cut above many of the others (in my opinion)!

-Digger and Magnum's matching camo outfits during the rescue mission crack me up. Am I missing something here? Are we to believe they both happen to own matching camo outfits or is there another explanation that I am missing?

Again, really enjoyed the episode and this watch party is a cool idea.
