Does anyone know if the Aloha shirt worn by Johnny Depp is still being made? If so, where can I get it? Does anyone know the manufacturer? Here's a photo from the film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
I've seen the whole get up sold on eBay, but I'd rather have a quality shirt from one of the better Aloha shirt sellers instead of a Halloween costume, which is what the entire outfit has been advertised on eBay.
Yeah, cosplay-type stuff is all I've seen online in terms of a replica. I thought there would be a shirt manufacturer like Paradise Found that does for Fear and Loathing as is done for shirt. I'm sure I've seen the pattern or a variation of it and it's a common one, it's just the color scheme that's proving elusive. I'm surprised there isn't more info on this.
Thanks for your reply, Conch. Glad I'm not alone in the search for a quality version of the shirt and not the no-doubt cheapy cosplay version.
I've found one that's sort of similar, from Kahala via the Aloha Shirt Shop, except for the colors--small detail. I wonder if the colors are just "too early '70s" to fly with today's no doubt "hipper" crowd?
I've also looked, the fact it's just two colors, makes it more of a uniform aloha shirt in my eyes.Tour bus driver and guide, hotel staff, abc store or Day_n_Night....

The Aloha Shirts site mentioned above doesn't appear to be an online retailer. Or is it? They mention online sales but the site is not a browsing type of thing. Only Alohashirtshop.comhas proven to be a delightful "online shopping experience."

It's a bricks and mortar shop in Waikiki. I think it's run by one eccentric guy. You probably have to see the shop to get it. I think you'd probably exchange a few emails. That seems to be more their speed! Best to give them a call and have a chat: 808-734-7628.
"How fiendishly deceptive of you Magnum. I could have sworn I was hearing the emasculation of a large rodent."
I don't know anything about his online business.I suggest you call him and see if he knows anything at all about the shirt. He's been in business for 35 years so he would be a good starting point.
It's possible the wardrobe department took a trip to a fabric store and then made 4-5 shirts for the shoot in which case you won't find it.
He opens at 3 Eastern time..if you don't have time,I'll make the call..let me know.
No, I haven't called Aloha Shirts. Speaking of which, I'm not sure an eccentric needs to be burdened by yet another Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas phone call!
