They must have had a list of extras that they could call on short notice, especially for beach scenes like this where many people needed to be placed in the background. Perhaps she was simply a local who they put on their short list?
Asking Larry Manetti sounds like a good idea, someone should do that. Might be a long shot though. I'd have a tough time remembering an acquaintance from 28 years ago.
I'm sure she was a local extra. I worked in television production for a few years, and saw many of the same extras repeatedly. Some agencies even specialize in "wrangling" extras. There's nothing last minute about it. The call sheets would list number of extras needed and for what purpose. For some films the numbers are massive, as in hundreds, for establishing shots and the like.
I doubt Larry would remember her, but it's possible.
Hmm other than the good looking bikini extra that appeals to the predominantly male magnum maniac ... would there also be stalking overweight 'old fart' type local extras that we have just overlooked so far???
Thanks RC, I was pretty sure it was her. She's very distinctive.
Can't say that I've noticed any "overweight old fart" extras, but there are several extras that appear in numerous episodes. The show definitely had a troop of local stock extras.
This lady here, let's call her "Lady Z", can be seen in many, many episodes, usually at one of Higgins' high society events at the Estate. She's tall with a beautiful head of hair.
There's also this shot from "The Great Hawaiian Adventure Company" which appears to be a little nod to some of the KKC beach bar extras.
I'm more confused the more I read in this thread. She looks like an adult XXX actress from the 80s. It would not be the first time an adult performer was used in Magnum P.I. series.
R.J. Reynolds was a porn star who appeared in Don't say Goodbye (1981) and Past Tense (1982).

She does have that look, doesn't she?

Why is every porn actor automatically a star?
I could be wrong but I think I saw her in xxx films from the 80s and if I come up with her name, if it exists, I will post to this thread.
I just finished watching the episode Under World from Season 5 and instantly she is noticeable while walking about dressed as a nurse with other nurses. I then returned to this thread and sure enough I see that someone posted this image on page one of this thread.
About the use of the word star instead of actor or actress, it is likely a common term to separate true actors and actresses from those that simply had sex on film. A Porn actor or actress does not really act, they perform. Hence we substitute the word actor or actress with the word star.

Wow, I somehow missed this post about "Lady Z"........I have always had a thing for women with well kempt silver hair, you know the ones that are "built like the Prince Albert Memorial" and also have that gorgeous silver hair glistening in the sun........May have something to do with my grey hair that I have had for thirty years. But anyway I thought I was the only person that always spotted her as an extra. Well done James!
Somewhere out there right now Lady X and Lady Y are likely going about their lives completely unaware of the craziness here... no the mania going on here.
I like it.

We have another "Lady X" sighting! Observant viewer Doc Fred caught a glimpse of her in Season Six's "The Kona Winds" (as Big Ed Kanakoa's date at the King Kam Club). Once again, she appears to be stalking Magnum (just kidding)! I believe this is her sixth confirmed appearance on MPI. She should of had her own show or something. Wow.

She wears that 80s look so well. Awesome.
"How fiendishly deceptive of you Magnum. I could have sworn I was hearing the emasculation of a large rodent."
