AOL Television just named the top 50 TV Hunks of all time. TS came in at number 10. Number one was Patrick Dempsey, I just don't get it, no matter how much they try to shove it down my throat, the guy is still a nerd to me..........

I confess I like Patrick Dempsey and have ever since "JFK: Reckless Youth" and "A Season in Purgatory." Have never watched "Grey's Anatomy," and I don't see him being around in 20 years unless he starts doing something better than "Made of Honor." At this point, I'd call him a lightweight compared to TS, but then everyone thought TS was a lightweight after "Lassiter" and "High Road to China." TS earned his stripes over the last 25 years. PD could also.

Especially if he were picked to play TM in the movie! Now that has potential, if looked at correctly. The two movies I mentioned first above show his dramatic ability -- I think he can act -- and "Made of Honor" placed him in a comedic (if poorly written) role. Let's just say I wouldn't object violently (as I would to Matthew McCon. -- or anyone except TS).

I like PD also, but I wouldn't classify him as a "hunk" in any way, shape or form.

Okay, I had no idea who Patrick Dempsey was so I googled him. My impression is that he's a poser. Nothing against him, but in the google photos it looks like he's trying to force the look of a rugged man's man. For selleck, it just came naturally. I'm old school. I come from a time when men were men.
Tom selleck, Women wanted him, men wanted to be him. I don't see that in Dempsey.

You hit the nail right on the head with that statement. Dempsey seems like a nice enough fellow, but I think what made TS an all around "hunk" to Men as well as Women, was that Selleck did not have to try. Heck, throughout most of the series, he would throw a Baseball cap on his head, not really caring how he looked (how many of us men look in the mirror on the weekends and do the same thing). This two day stubble, manufactured look that some of these Johnny come lately stars sport just smacks to me "Metro-sexual". As a man, and an ex athelete, I also always loved that TS never had to fake any Sport he was attempting on the show, from surf skiing to Football, Basketball and Baseball. Actually, I can only think of a couple of other male stars I would ever rank up there with Tom, that being Mark Harmon, Sam Ellliott and in Movies, Kevin Costner..........

You're right on about Mark Harmon, I'm also a fan of Sam Elliott. I tell ya' that NCIS show is more like MPI than any I've ever seen. There are so many parallels it's unbelievable. The more you watch it, the more you notice. I think instead of Jethro Gibbs, Thomas Magnum would have been a great lead for that show. They could even play on the similarities between the shows. Of course as I said before, MPI has been referenced many times in the show, eliminating the possibility of TM being a character.

Let's just face it...there's no substitute for our Tom Terrific!

Even at age 63, his hunkiness has not diminished one bit. He has presence, and charisma and that's something that you can't fake. It's not any one thing that defines his presence, but we know it when we see it!

Same here. Despite his modern status as "McDreamy", I always picture him from those movies he did in the '80s as a teenager, particularly Can't Buy Me Love and Loverboy. Loverboy is one of those goofy '80s movies I'm embarrassed to say that I actually like. There are some really funny scenes in that one.

You made have just made an interesting point: PD was around in the same 1980s Tom Selleck was in, and yet now 20 years later, he's still around and stronger than he was then. So apparently he has some kind of "staying power."

I am NOT saying he's equivalent to TS!!! Just an interesting correlation of both being around then and now . . . .

From a standpoint of who still looks good: Patrick Swayze and Kurt Russell, both of whom I do really like, look "rode hard and put up wet." I think Harrison Ford and TS are the only ones who still look good currently, though TS does appear to be heavier than HF.

Wow, My wife and I are both fans of Alannah Myles. Unbelievable how much Kirstie Alley looks like her in that shot.

Hello, my name is AndyDupree. I appeared in several recurring roles on Magnum as Lance Legault's (Colonel Buck Greene) Lieutenant, was an occasional stand-in for Larry Manetti and John Hillerman, and had many days of extra work.

It was so much fun to have had my 'fifteen' minutes with the Magnum cast and crew. I especially miss my good friend Margerat Doversola.

Nowadays, I am a real estate developer in Southern California and British Columbia. Have occasionally run across Tom's family in Palmdale. Hope everyone is doing well. Anyone know how the original stand-ins (John, John, and Jeff) are doing?
