In spite of all the excercise, with his diet consisting of (almost entirely) junk food and beer TM never got fat.

It's all that swimming he does. Don't forget he is capable of treading water for.....was it 24 hours?

In my opinion (and I'm sure SelleckLover will stone me in effigy), Magnum DID "bulk up" over the eight-year run. He was never trim around the waist, to start with. Yes, he looked good, but he didn't have the classic "broad shoulders, narrow hips" look. He always had a large waist and hips (not out of proportion but NOT the inverted triangle).

So just look at the cover art for the last couple of seasons -- he definitely looks chunkier (and does even now). But who of us DOES have the same body he/she had 20 years ago? I'm the same WEIGHT -- it's just distributed differently (Larry says it's the sand settling to the bottom . . . such a lovely analogy . . . . )

But back on the subject, I think these recitations of what "pushed the [logic] envelope" are GREAT!!!! Putting them all together, it makes Magnum looks pretty cheesy, selfish, egocentric, and makes most of the character look pretty stupid to put up with all he did. YES, HE DID have his good points and went to bat for them. But on the week-to-week basis, he was the user and they were the usees. And it makes the show seem pretty shallow and unpolished.

Hey, you can only really love someone if you accept their flaws - and TSMIV -- and the show -- apparently had them.

No effigies being stoned here, golf! Sadly, I agree with you, but I just can't bring myself to put it in writing...but for me, it doesn't matter what TS looks like, "bulked up" or not, mustache or not, chunkier...whatever! He's still a hunk no matter how you slice it!!! As I've said in other posts, I would never want to meet him, because he couldn't possibly live up to what I've built up in my mind all these years...LOL So I choose to worship him from afar....sigh.

This may sound silly, but I think the fact that TM/TS "bulked up" through his years on MPI made him seem even more human and more likeable.

In the first few seasons, seems the shows higher-ups and most women were happy having him run around half naked, (trust me..I'm not complaining!) but as the seasons went on, it made him seem more real to show his age and dress "older" like the rest of us. I also like the fact he wasn't a body-builder type all bulked up. He was/is perfect for my tastes.

Do you find it strange that so many people have so many reasons for watching the show? (MPI was definitely not a one-dimensional show!)

I always thought TM was in great shape. I think he did gain a little weight in that last few years, but it wasn't like he had a gut. I think most guys in the 40-43 range would've been pretty happy being in as good a shape as him. Also, I never realized what a monster TC was when I was a kid. His arms are frigging HUGE! He could probably pick up the helo if he didn't fly it.

Do you find it strange that while TM never had more than a couple hundred dollars in the bank since he left the Navy, he had an expensive wardrobe of clothes?

No, all his shirts are b-day gifts from his mother
I am sure about it since watching "Forty"

Fig Newtons only have 2 fat grams. I can't say the same for Coops, chili dogs, pizza, and Chinese takeout. He does work out religiously.

Do you find it strange that everytime a guest arrives in Hawaii, they look just fabulous, right off the plane? No rumpled clothing, no red eyes, no "plane hair"?
Higgins: You've washed the car?! How extraordinary. Why would you do such a thing?

Do you find it strange that Magnum can tail so many people in that red Ferrari and never be seen, even when he is sitting right outside someone's home, where when the person leaves, they pass right by him?

..nope, see every time I see a Ferrari I am so delighted and I hope it`ll stay right behind me so I can watch it in my mirror as long as possible - I`d never ever think it`ll have anything to do with me - just my luck it is there...

I've always thought about that like this, "The last thing in the world a piss-poor gumshoe is going to drive is a fancy Italian sports car. A Ferrari is the perfect cover for him!".

I stand by my reasoning!
