Rubber Chicken Guide to Magnum P.I. Filming Locations, version 1.5
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays edition

Image

In the past month I've had more free time to dedicate to the guide, and although I finished this new update before Christmas, I'm only able to post it to the forums now. (Too much cookie baking...) In this update there are 21 new placemarks (19 unique locations), which brings the total placemark count to somewhere around 511. Here's what's new:

Added Placemarks

2.5 - wedding of Michelle & Thomas

2.14 - James & Claudia Randolph
2.14 - chasing Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme #1
2.14 - chasing Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme #2
2.14 - chasing Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme #3
2.14 - chasing Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme #4
2.14 - chasing Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme #5
2.14 - chasing Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme #6

3.16 - Magnum driving west
3.16 - Dragon Bar

7.4 - driving to the Plaza Arms #1 (p.o.v.)
7.4 - driving to the Plaza Arms #2 (p.o.v.)
7.4 - Plaza Arms: Cleo Mitchell ♥ (Your place or mine.)

7.9 - The Pill Box Pharmacy - Dyphylline for Amy, Ice Cream for Magnum
(pickled eggs can no longer be found at the "Day-N-Dark", but Magnum fans traveling to Oahu should consider stopping by this pharmacy to re-enact Magnum walking out the door with an ice cream cone :) )
7.9 - Seaview Motel: Amy Salyer, room #1

8.2 - Magnum & Carol driving #1
8.2 - Magnum & Carol driving #2
8.2 - The Club Del Mar Chino (wedding ceremony)

Notable Placemark Updates

Added link for photo of Tom Selleck and Frank Fasi to:
2.12 - Harold Farber's office building
5.19 - Galletin International

Added "very early photo" link and text to:
3.8 - "... one of the most prestigious public schools in all of England."

Updated photo layout and added "Mason Architects" link to:
5.1 & 5.2 - Diane & Diedre Dupres

Added "Historic Hawaii Foundation" link to:
6.17 - "Randolph building"

Added "Mason Architects" link to:
8.5 - Queen Emma Summer Palace
8.6 - Abigail Baldwin (mother of Carol Baldwin)

Please remember to delete (or at least uncheck) any old versions of the guide, to prevent the problem of identical-multiple placemarks over top of each other. As talked about here.

Here's the new .kmz file: Magnum P.I. locations 1.5.kmz

For those who haven't used a .kmz file before, refer to either the instructions in the page which James has made, or in my original post.

Thanks for yet another great update the Guide rubber chicken! :)

The Oceania Floating Restaurant makes two more appearances; I had no idea that was location for Magnum & Michelle's wedding!

Good to see the Nuuanu Valley ID'd in another scene (the Ferrari/Cutlass chase!).

And Kaimuki! Don't ask me why, but I love Kaimuki!

Alright RC, I've got a challenge for you! :D

Mostly because I've been driving myself insane trying to find the location and can't! It doesn't really have an official name - it's just a small house in the middle of Waikiki (yes, a house amongst all the huge buildings) and the locals know it as it always has hundreds of pidgeons on the roof (and their resulting poop). Not sure if the tour guide called it the 'bird house' or not.

I've been trying without result for a while on Google Maps to find the place. I'm almost certain it was facing East, and I'm fairly certain it was towards the south eastern side of Waikiki. It also had a few large trees around it, which are perhaps obscuring it and making it harder for me to find. I also think directly behind it was a restaurant of some sort, but not entirely certain on that point.

Go RC go!! 8)

Finding houses where pigeons roost on the roof and practice their poor toilet habits happens to be one of my specialties. Is this the place you were thinking of?

(The pigeons were at work when the picture was taken.)

Edit: This angle shows some of the pigeons in question. There's even one in flight in this photo.

You're awesome RC! So tell me, did you already know about the house or did you find it just now?

I think I may have come across it in my search after all but didn't recognise it - in real life the pigeon poop is much more visible, on GE you can't really see it that well and I may have glossed past it.

Just found it. :?

I wonder if they like that roof because of the fruit in the tree. Maybe that has nothing to do with it though...

Nicely spotted!

And there's an ABC Store next door - big surprise eh?! :D

Quality on that couldn't be worse! Still, pretty interesting. I wonder what show that was? Looks like a pretty sweet bachelor pad.

LOL! Audio out of sync, poor video quality, grunting noises, camera tapping. :)

But still, a rare piece of video! I've never seen the inside of Selleck's Black Point pad before! What a beautiful house! Interesting that Selleck lived in (rented) the cottage when he arrived on the islands to film Magnum, and after the show took off he bought the whole house from the owners. Love the caricature of Selleck that the owners made!

:)

When they show the upstairs bedrooms and the host (off screen) says, "Upstairs, well..." With the poor audio, it sounds for all the world like he then says "... if the mattress could speak." LOL!

Hi burny,

Thanks for posting the video.I have a feeling that video was done in 2001 when Selleck listed the house.

The diologue makes it a fluff piece and not a sales pitch.

I noticed the furniture in the guesthouse livingroom is the same as the pics from a 2001 listing..

Cap from the video is shown first followed by pic from listing. The listing is from the first offering in 2001 when it was offered at 2.76..and sold for 2.5.

J.J. Walters wrote:Ok, I've added the file to the site and I've created a page for rubber chicken's amazing piece of work: http://magnum-mania.com/A_Rubber_Chicken_Guide.html . The page is referenced on the right column of all pages that have a right column (250 pages). I've also added a description and link to the page on the top part of the On Location page.

All hail the great rubber chicken! :)
