Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations
Good idea!
I'm guessing From Dusk til Dawn may be more well known than what you're thinking, but just to make sure I figured I'd mention it.

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations
Gymkata (1985) is the cheesiest movie from the 80s that I can think of. As a child I remember seeing the TV ads for it and thinking it had to be the stupidest movie ever. I saw it sometime last year and found it to be unintentionally really funny. Being drunk probably helped in that matter. Here is the trailer for you to judge for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDzt-JVvYPg

I really enjoyed Father Goose. It reminds me of Donovan’s Reef with John Wayne. The Field was so tragic but very well done!Mad Kudu Buck wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 6:17 pm These three are more unpopular than obscure, but they're good movies most people don't know about. I can only find clips though, not whole movies:
"Father Goose"(1964) - a light Cary Grant movie, last or second last before retiring. I consider it Cary Grant's "African Queen".
youtu.be/Y_y-qOQDdxI
"The Field"(1990) - probably Richard Harris' best acting
youtu.be/Qk-03oFgvyQ
"Mrs. Brown"(1997) - historical about Queen Victoria
youtu.be/DsnOyuU2o6A
I’ll have to check out Mrs. Brown.

I also liked Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, and the recent Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.Mad Kudu Buck wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 1:30 pmIsn't "From Dusk til Dawn" a popular movie? It seemed quite popular to me. I saw it in the movie theatre, back when I still thought Tarantino was good. I soon realized that he's just a hack and got lucky with one movie. Whenever I see the title "From Dusk til Dawn", I think of the monsters in "Evil Dead II" shouting "Dead by dawn! Dead by dawn!!"

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations
I think the only Tarantino film I REALLY liked (even loved) was DJANGO UNCHAINED! Mainly because of Waltz, DiCaprio, and Sam Jackson. I would have handed out Oscars to all 3 of them! But the film as a whole was pretty engaging. Maybe it's because of the Sergio Leone vibes, which I love.
Whereas with something like INGLORIOUS BASTERDS I didn't care much about it and Waltz was the ONLY thing I liked about that one.

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations
I don't know if any of these are truly obscure or just lesser-known but I like them and most people haven't even heard of them.
Thief Of Hearts (1984) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088256/
This is an erotic drama from 1984, generally considered a bad movie but I liked it. It's hard to get a hold of, not shown much as far as I can tell. A thief breaks into a home, finds a diary, and is drawn to the author, and plots a seemingly surreptitious meeting.
Deceived (1991) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101694/
This movie was fun (IMO) but again many think the plot is too predictable and I say there's nothing new under the sun. Oh, you may not actually know the person who sleeps next to you.
The Perfect Weapon (1991) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102655/
One of my favorite martial arts flicks, Speakman is great. The usual vengence theme with lots of butt-kicking.
Only The Strong (1993) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107750/
Another great martial arts flick with an elegant flare, Capoeira is a very interesting style. The plot is thin but I enjoyed it for the fight scenes alone. Ex miltary guy, an expert in a strange art becomes a teacher to troubled youth... he does what Belushi and Pfeiffer couldn't - cartwheels and flips.
I'm not an artsy-fartsy type but a few years ago I was wanting to see something very different, different from the spoon-fed plots we usually get from most American films, which I happen to like. I came across The Three Colors trilogy by director Krzysztof Kieslowski. I really don't know why I liked them, they are obscure to me in every way, strange I suppose. Truth is I began spending less time trying to read the sub titles and just watched the characters on screen, as if I was sitting down in a foreign country observing the people. IIRC it was Red that I liked the most, but I got all 3 from the library, watched in order they were released.
Three Colors: Blue (1993) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108394/
Three Colors: White (1994) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111507/
Three Colors: Red (1994) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111495/

On the zany side, i could recommend "Sky Pirates" from 1986... great moment of laughting and action packed sequences (while totally implausible). However, a good moment if you're taking it with a little hinsight...

Hum... Concerning Sky Pirates, i am the happy owner of the australian version in DVD... However i found the german version on youtube if you want to take a glance (it was titled as "Dakota Harris").Mad Kudu Buck wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 6:32 pm Yes, these are definitely obscure. I've never heard of any of these. In fact, they're so obscure, I can't find them to watch them. I tried to get "Deceived" and "Sky Pirates", but so far nothing.
"Pocketful of Miracles"(1961) is a good light comedy (a bit sappy in places), fairly obscure. Here's the full movie:
