This idea came to me after a long night of drinking. The idea is a great idea!! It would involve a crossover with another Bellasarus show, NCIS. NCIS would be used to jump start the new Magnum show. Both Magnum and NCIS had crossover episodes so this is nothing new.
We all remember the episode Unfinished Buisness where Magnum watches his daughter and wife get murdered. The next episode Great Hawaiian Adventure Company made ZERO sense. Magnum is happy like nothing happened.
What if.... Magnum had a complete mental breakdown? Everything was in Magnums head after Unfinished Buisness. There was no Resolutions, no marriage. Magnum wandered away a broken man and lived as a homeless man. Higgins, Rick and TC searched for him but could not find him.
Fast forward 24 years. There is a homicide and Magnum is the homeless bum was involved. Perhaps Magnum gets revenge with the children of the Vietnameese man who killed his wife and daughter. NCIS investigates, and that leads them to Robins Nest where Higgins is preparing to retire and return to his relatives in England. Higgins decides to stay and help Magnum.
Magnum eventually gets help at a VA hospital. He returns to Hawaii where he takes over Higgins job as Major Domo. Robin/Higgins wants to take care of Magnum and offers him the job of taking care of the grounds.
Meanwhile, Rick and TC have a surprise. Magnum has a 26 year old son who just finished 4 years in the Navy and is out. Magnum reunites with his son who lives in the guest house. This would be a great relationship to explore. And we can pick who we want to be the mother, and perhaps Magnum can have a Higgins/Agatha type relationship. Who should the mother be? The asian news reporter? The lady from LA? Carol?
What makes this a great idea is Tom Sellect would not have a large part so he would be more willing to take the role. The studio gets to pick the next big star to get the 20 year old demographics. Hardcore fans get Magnum, Rick, and TC is a supporting role.
What do you guys think?
I know how to get Magnum back on TV!!

Magnum is an older man now. He was 40 in 1986. It is 2012 and he would be 66. That is older than Higgins was in the 1980's.Braddah Kimo wrote:Go ahead and produce it. I will probably watch!
btw: "offers him the job of taking care of the grounds. " a groundskeeper or yardman would be below Magnum's station. Even if he did do one day of mowing back then. (against the grain, haha!)
I doubt Magnum would still be a private investigator at 66 years of age.
He lived on Robin Masters estate for many years and he knows what needs to be done to maintain the estate.
What other ways can Magnum come back and be relevant?
First post and it's about a movie idea...
Presuming a modern day story using the original cast.
The only way to bring them back is for a relational catalyst, a McGuffin if you will, that reunites the key players. One problem is the health of John Hillerman. I've heard it isn't great and that he uses a scooter to get around. If so, it would be tough to make it work WITH him appearing in it. So I have an idea that covers all this.
Higgins was NOT R.M. Early seasons bear this out, so we go with that despite the confusion written into later seasons. Well, Higgins worked for the real RM for years until the death of the novelist. When RM died, he was buried at the estate. When RM died, he left a trust fund and Robin's Nest to Higgins. Higgins continued to work on his memoirs for many years but never quite finished them. He kept an audio diary in later years and has many recordings stored at the estate.
So the catalyst is the death of Higgins and a funeral that reunites Magnum, T.C., and Rick. JQH has left the estate and it's endowment so as to see it contribute to culture in the area, but with the provision that TM, Rick, and TC be a part of the oversight.
Now, the premise can be a variety of things, but the death of Higgins has to set in motion a series of events that require Magnum to investigate Higgins' death, with the help of T.C. and Rick, and using the diary recordings of JQH. In those recordins are clues, memories (hopefully no cheesy flashbacks) of the time with the guys, and professions of his respect and friendship with TM. Some icing on the cake... Out of fondness for that timeframe in JQH's life, the SAME Ferrari is still there... Stored in the garage...
The particulars of the movie plot have to reveal some of the backstory for the characters in the past 25+/- years.... I.E. TM finsihed a career in the navy; started, ran, and sold off a private security firm, etc. Maybe he had settled in Va. so his daughter would be around his extended family... Reintroduce a few chosen characters (like Lily) and create a few new ones. The KKC needs to be included, as does the modern navy (as a retired Navy vet, TM has access to the base even if he doesn't know too many people....), and add some new twists on the old locations... Things change, and they need to note that like anybody else would if they weren't around for a while.
It's doable, but it CAN'T be like the old show. The relationships can be there, as well as some car chases (maybe a shootout or two), but the physical stuff needs to be toned down. It wouldn't fit the guys of today.
The kicker at the end could be: JQH REALLY WAS RM, but used that whole RM death thing as a ruse so as to retire from writing novels. Also, JQH isn't dead either, but has essentially moved into the transient life that the fictional RM supposedly had during the series. It can be all revealed through audio. The face of JQH/RM never needs to be seen. IT can all be done through audio, which means John Hillerman could be involved without the physical demands that may be too much. The series did it before, so it would work again and would tie in the vital relationship in the series.
The best part: JQH reveals his true feelings for TM, the guys, and the adventure of their time together.... The relationships are there, as they should be.

Trust Me!!!
That is really good! It has all the main cast members back, accounts for Higgins, and allows the network to add cast members to win the younger demographics. Most important, we get TS as Magnum!Kevster wrote:First post and it's about a movie idea...
