Live stream of consciousness reboot thoughts as I watch

#1 Post by Reef monkey »

(Spoilers ahead if you’re dvring to watch later)

Man, the new guys’s Surf ski is a far barge compared to TS’s Hayden spec ski. Of course TS was an accomplished surfskier in real life. New guy is likely a surfski newbie who needs all the primary stability he can get.

Pilot opens with an old navy buddy getting killed, just like Don’t Eat Th Snow in Hawai.

James Remar was a good choice as Buck Greene.

New Higgins is hot and a badass.

Cool they used Malasadas for the doughnuts TM uses to bribe people.

Horrible.

They’re trying to jam 8 years of classic established beloved character development into the first hour.

Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

That was a sloppy giant stride entry, and he didn’t have his instruments secured.

Totaling two Ferraris, one a classic 308 GTi, should be considered a hate crime.

Final thoughts: has my love of the original series clouded my objectivity - ie, if I had never heard of the series, would I have a better view of this episode? Actually, I’d probably find it an inferior clone of the Hawaii 5-0 reboot. Even if there were no Hawaii 5-0 reboot, I’d find this to be inferior to the likes of Burn Notice.
I watched it i I gave it a chance, it sucked, don’t need to watch any more episodes.

I saw this as a H50 reboot clone as well.

Here are my thoughts, some of which others have stated:
- Fake Magnum and Fake Higgins were way too friendly way too quickly
- This show is a product of its era; I don't like most modern TV
- The wrecking of a classic 308 ... ugh
- They tried to cram way too much into this first hour
- They absolutely destroyed the theme song :(

My granddaddy had a saying. Whenever we went to a sub-par restaurant, he'd say "Son, that was two in one." I once asked him what he meant, and his reply: "Son, that was the first, and the last." This episode was 2-in-1 for me.

The original series had much more gravitas.
