Something weird is happening to me... at first I hated the Magnum reboot.
Now I find I'm looking forward to seeing what they've made of it.
At first I thought Hernandez was terrible casting- but now I think it's genius.
He's so different from Tom Selleck there's no point in comparing... what's the point? Selleck can never be replaced and hasn't been replaced.
No matter how good or bad the new series is, nothing is going to touch the original... I don't want to be a cranky old guy waving my walking stick at everything.
It'll be fine!

I'm with you Danno. Let's see what they do with it. Maybe my kids will actually prompt me to watch Magnum rather than tolerate my viewings of the original...they just can't relate to it.
"How fiendishly deceptive of you Magnum. I could have sworn I was hearing the emasculation of a large rodent."

I have to admit, I've never seen a Fast and the Furious movie, it doesn't appeal to me at all.
If this is the sort of flavour we get in the reboot then so be it.
Hernandez is no Selleck. He has to make his own Magnum.
To be successful it'll have to be different. Imitation would be the worst.

Your kids "can't relate to it"? How strange. I can't relate to the fact that they can't relate to it. When I was young, I watched things from 30-40 years earlier (including "The Little Rascals") and didn't have a problem relating to it. I guess I just don't understand this post-Facebook Instagram Snapchat generation. (...and what the hell is "Snapchat"?)
My niece is with us for the summer, she's about 17. Never has seen an episode of Magnum before I know, I know, but she said the other night she wouldn't mind seeing it. Started with the first half of the pilot episode, and she liked it! Despite not being born during the original run she was fine with the original. I think it comes down to storytelling ultimately. You can attention grabbers in there like fast and furious cars and stunts, but it won't have staying power if they can't get the essence across.

Oh yeah, all my friends saw Gran Torino and told me I needed to see it it was me! LOL!!!!

Just pass that walking stick this way....I will be glad to wave it in connection with this reboot. But you are so right...nothing is going to touch the original.
The more I saw of the new show the worse it looked to me. I will not be watching. Fast and Furious movies are something I've actively avoided...forcing that style of storytelling into a reboot of a favorite classic show only serves to enrage me. I'm hoping it dies quickly and is soon forgotten.
