This article NAILS IT. No, I'm not Pete Vonder Haar, but I'm writing him a note!

"bro-tastic." Man, this piece is perfect. Thanks for posting, ConchRepublican.

Edited to add: The * at the bottom is right on. The entire piece is right on.

This is so spot on that I wonder how much of it was lifted from the posters here. Some of it sounds awfully familiar. That's not necessarily wrong, but he could have said something like "A quick perusal online of die hard MPI fans reveals they aren't pleased."

This article nails it. "Bro-tastic" is now a word I will use derisively to describe this culture. The "look how awesome I am" culture that has swept up so many.

MagnumsLeftShoulder,
Something was bugging me about this article and I couldn't put my finger on it, but then I read your post.
The story does in fact sound like many of the posts from the members here.
So Vonder Haar was sly not to mention Magnum Mania, THE online Magnum resource.
A savvy writer writer is not going to cite a source he mined for so much of his article lest his editor throw it back at him and say "write it yourself".
Judging by some of the snarky and in poor taste lines("magnum condom") he used I figured him for a posturing Village type with his beloved pocket edition
of Emily Dickinson snugged tightly in his all white suit as he annoyed other patrons at The White Horse.
I found the author's tag at the bottom of his column annoying as well, going for the poor man's version of the "Most Interesting Man in the World" vibe:
"Pete Vonder Haar writes for the Village Voice... likes Irish whiskey, Sumatran coffee, and Mexican wrestling"
Vonder Haar would be the type of guest Robin would invite to stay at the estate just to annoy Higgins.
Dobie("that's Dobie with a B, not P"...Dwayne Hickman)

Words to live by for any of you inspired by Magnum World to have your own tikii bar in the backyard:
"Many a man who thinks to found a home discovers that he has merely opened a tavern for his friends"
Norman Douglas, South Wind

"The smoldering sexual tension between the original Higgins and Agatha Chumley was enough for me, and it should be enough for you, dammit." nailed it! :higgins:
"Don't worry, Higgins, I like your stories."
