James Darren has passed away at 88. He was born right here in Philadelphia. Our local boy done good.
I primarily know him as Officer Jim Corrigan on T.J. HOOKER (a show from my childhood which I’ve been revisiting quite a bit over the last year or two and enjoying) who was partnered with Heather Locklear’s Officer Stacy Sheridan. In the 60s he was the star of THE TIME TUNNEL on TV which I’ve never seen. I also remember him in the great WWII flick THE GUNS OF NAVARONE. He was most famous for the GIDGET movies, none of which I have ever seen.
And on the Hawaiian front he was in the original FIVE-O episode from season 11 “Number One with a Bullet” (a very heavy disco-themed episode) as Johnny Monroe.

I recall him from "Time Tunnel", arguably the best of Irwin Allan's series, they all run late Saturdays on MeTV.
Obviously cast for his looks but he was a good actor, you'd think he would have had a better career.
Time Tunnels pilot was excellent, they spent some money on it. It always struck me as funny that man develops time travel and the first two
to go back in time wind up on the Titanic, the Alamo, Troy, not the best places to be if you are looking forward to your next birthday.
The series did a good job using footage from movies, many big budget, to make it believable the boys were at Pearl Harbor etc.

They are solid entertainment , though "Voyage" can get laughable in a fun way. "The Invaders" is still popular in France and other European nations, it scared the heck out of me as a kid.Aloha Friday wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 11:15 pm I did not know it was on MeTV...I'll have to look for it.
Time Tunnel's Pearl Harbor episode was quite exciting and well written, a James Darren centered episode that allowed him to shine as his character as a boy witnessed the attack, his dad stationed there.
Should he alert the navy and alter history? No Federation Prime Directive in play here, so tune in and find out.
Saturday Night on MeTV:
12:00 - 1:100 AM Kolchak:The Night Stalker
1:00- 2:00 Lost In Space
2:00 - 3:00 Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
3:00 - 4:00 Land of the Giants
4:00 - 5:00 Time Tunnel

Cool. I will look for this. I used to watch Land of the Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Lost in Space when I was a kid. Thanks for the schedule.
