Got around to watching this last night and was quite impressed! Very good movie with good performances from Tom Selleck (of course!), Laura San Giacomo and was surprised to see Alan Rickman also show up in there.
Great story line and some good butt kicking by TS, as in his other westerns.
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and would have to rank his best western movie. Not to mention filmed only a year after the end of Magnum.
Just watched Quigley again today and I had forgotten how great it is. TS is brilliant. Does anyone know if he actually took the shot himself at 1000 yards hitting the bucket with the sharps rifle? Knowing he is so keen on shooting I wouldn't mind guessing he did.
Also there were some notable Aussie actors too, great movie!
I wonder if Quigley is purely a mythical character or there is some legend to it all.
I'm a big fan of this movie as well. I liked the character and the idea behind the movie. Like Suzie, I hope there's a little bit of truth behind it as well.
I put Quigley, Three Men and a Baby and Runaway, as my top three movies for Tom.
edit:
. . . . oops . . . I can't believe I forgot An Innocent Man . . . that may kick Runaway out of the top three . . .

Not to mention it's filmed (obviously) in Australia.

I just finished watching this movie and I really enjoyed it. I wish I'd seen it years ago. For those of you with Comcast, it is a free on-demand movie right now.
Took me a while to finally get a hold of and watch this but I'm glad I did. Loved the little bits of humour throughout and it a more than decent job on the historial accuracy too.
Laura was pretty ace as Cora and Alan was great as the jerk villain. Great to see a range of accents in there to accurately reflect what Oz would have been like back then too.
I saw it some years ago. I give the movie a "B." I would have given it an "A-," but the female lead just got on my nerves, like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Hi Guys, I hadnt seen this movie in some time but your posts prompted me to see it tonight. Damn fine flick and the Australian locations were fun to see, I'm glad they didnt decide to film it on a backlot at Universal Studios. Among the cast I am pretty sure I spotted the helicopter pilot "Jerry" from the Australian kids tv series Skippy, which back in 1969 was probably the biggest tv series around the world, I never missed a episode back then.
Too bad Mister Selleck didn't get more scripts of this quality, sometimes I wonder if he had a lousy agent back then as he did appear in some turkeys. Quigley however is a dinky di little beauty.

Thank you for digging that up. As the years pass I have noticed Quigley is getting a lot more love and appreciation. The chemistry between Selleck and Laura San
Giancomo really comes across and Alan Rickman's character is one of the best ever in Westerns, he should have got at least a Oscar nod if not a win.
What a shame they didn't make a sequel.
