A Magnum fan (who wishes to remain anonymous) recently sent me a bunch of scanned (PDF) Magnum-related articles, all from 1980-1988. The sources are magazines (Variety, TV Guide, People) and newspapers (mostly NY-based - NY Daily News, NY Post). Very interesting reads. 25 articles are available, but more will be added later. ;)

Be sure to check out the following articles:

"He's Hawaii's Magnum Force, But Selleck Is Far From Pacific" - People
"What could possibly be bothering Tom Selleck?" - TV Guide

- Tom's background, MPI filming, High Road to China, Divorce Wars: A Love Story, Tom's parents, family pictures.

"Higgins - not Hamlet - will be fine, thank you" - TV Guide

- Great info on Hillerman.

"One foot in the ghetto, one in his Rolls Royce" - TV Guide

- w/ Mosley driving around Watts in a Rolls!

"Camera Adventures with Magnum P.I." - American Cinematographer

- D.P. John C. Flinn III and a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the filming of MPI.

These are great! Thanks for posting them.
It's interesting to read the very first one, written prior to MPI's premiere. There are a couple of "flubs". The first refers to "Robert" Masters. Second, in mentioning the team ring, the writer states it has a "T" on it (not the Cross of Lorraine).
Regardless, these are great. Some of the links don't work though.

Great reading, definitely brings back memories as I remember reading a couple of those articles when they came out. I found it fascinating that Bellisario was going to pull the production away from Hawaii if a lease agreement couldn't be reached with The State and Diamondhead Studios. What a different show it would have been if it had been shot in Hollywood and only exterior second unit shots done in Hawaii.........

I agree Steve. I thik the dynamic would have been entirely different. Thank goodness they reached the settlement and filmed in the islands as planned.

Does anyone know which episode is the two hour Western salute episode that brings back memories of Gunsmoke referred to in the American Cinematographer?
