What would Magnum be doing in 2007?

#1 Post by N1095A »

Just looking for your ideas. We know that TM was a few years younger than TS. He'd most likely be around 60 or about to turn 60 now. I'm thinking he would be retired from the Navy. He could be a high ranking admiral, but given his 1979 resignation, and his time spent away from the Navy, I doubt it. Any ideas where he'd be at 60 ish?

A couple of years ago when there talk of the Magnum movie being written by Tom Clancy, I always pictured a twenty something year old Lilly now living in the guest house taking care of an aging Higgins (that we still are not sure if he is Robin Masters) and living the live and let live Magnum lifestyle. TC and Rick started up "The Great Hawaiian Adventure Company" and have been demanding to Magnum for years (who is fed up with his Navy Superiors anyway) come back to civillian life and help them run what was his idea in the first place. Perhaps Lilly or Higgins or both are in some type of danger and that forces Magnum out of the Navy to return and then the story begins.......Ah, but who would play Lilly? I always pictured Jessica Alba

I would imagine Magnum managing a baseball team of children in Hawaii, like he did during one episode, playing against a team managed by TC.
But that wouldn't take all his time.
Some sports during the day like running or cycling, and maybe he could finally write and publish his book "How To Be A World-Class Private Investigator" ?

Thomas Magnum, for reasons unknown, has changed his name and identity to "A.J. Cooper". He is a billionaire and currently owns the famous "Montecito Resort and Casino" in Las Vegas, Nevada. His pals Rick Wright and Theodore Calvin are also mega rich and are now known as "Larry" and "Roger", again for reasons unknown. Higgins/Robin Masters, sadly, has health problems and is living a life of seclusion somewhere on a "windy, rain swept coast" of England. ;)

James, I agree with your train of though, but I have a slightly different twist on it...

I beleive TM has left the Navy and moved to a town in MA and has taken the job as a law inforcement agent, of course changing his name (to evade
his enemies) to Jesse Stone.

You couldn't rule out the possibility that he's moved to California and become an avocado rancher. Stranger things have happened.

But in reality Magnum still lives at Robin's Nest with Higgins (who by the by, is now married to Agatha). Soon after finishing his book entitled How To Be A World-Class Private Investigator he started The Thomas Sullivan Magnum School of Private Investigation. The school's disciples can now be found in many corners of the world. The organization is famous and known as "The Magnum's", much like The Pinkertons of old. He occasionally takes up important investigative cases personally but only those that involve his friends. In his now ample free time he continues to run and surf ski, and also spends time watching Tigers games. His satellite TV reception lets him to see every game, and his DVR allows him to watch the games in the evening as nature intended, pausing the action when Higgins stops by.

Where the guesthouse once stood, Magnum built a house on land that was given to him as a gift from Robin Masters. The house is comparable in size to the original main house with lots of closet space for gorilla masks, rubber chickens and navy issue duffle bags.

The rest of the estate was left to Higgins in Robin Masters' will. Robin Masters was pronounced legally dead some years after his private jet disappeared under mysterious circumstances over the Mediterranean sea. Masters had been on an extended African safari and was en-route to Monaco. Some people say he had grown tired of the jet setting lifestyle with it's phony friends and tiny-dog toting, gold digging women. Suspiciously, Magnum never seemed to feel the need to investigate the incident, leading some to believe that Robin Masters told select friends of plans to stage his own death. There have been some reported sightings of Mr. Masters in remote outer islands of the Philippines.

Higgins is now free to do as he wishes which means his life is pretty much the same. With the help of wife Agatha, he holds various charity functions at the estate, works in the gardens, and continues to write his memoirs which after twenty seven years is approaching the 15,000 page mark.

Rick owns a slew of nightclubs across the islands (the information on the show Las Vegas was based on this). Although he still hasn't found a wife, it could happen any day now. After the passing of Ice Pick, Rick took over many of his duties. This allows him to save much time by enabling him to look up license plates directly.

TC owns the largest helicopter sightseeing company in the islands which has allowed him to become the largest private sponsor of the arts in Hawaii. He also sponsors youth sports leagues and despite his great wealth can often be seen playing with kids during practice. He and Rick worked together to open what has become a famous Oahu restaurant featuring cajun cooking. Most recently he opened Suspender Bender, which sells only the finest in suspenders which are imported from the world over.

Awsome Rubber Chicken, Just one flaw. Didn't Rick marry Cleo in "Resolutions?

Mike,

At the end of "Resolutions," he got tongue-tied at his prompt to say "I do," so he never actually said it. It was left open-ended as to whether he really completed the ceremony.

So, technically, I guess, the answer would be, no, Rick did NOT get married at the end of "Resolutions," even though Thomas, Higgins, and TC were all saying, "I do" for him, prompting him. Rick never got it spoken.

Whoops, my bad, looks like it could have gone either way, but I've forgotten a lot of what happens in season 8. If it's not on DVD then I haven't seen it recently, but since you brought it up I can now picture the wedding.

Could we say that if he did get married it was quickly annulled? Then what I said would still make sense. :P

Sounds good to me. Something tells me Rick and Cleo wouldn't have lasted that long together anyway. ;)

As I recall, and I haven't seen the episode since it first ran in 1988, there was a running joke through the whole episode as to if TM and Cleo had been "together" in a previous episode. Cleo did seem an odd choice for Rick. I think he was more suited to the single life. He seemed like the "ladies' man" type although he seemed to always choose the wrong lady.

In my opinion, I think the Annie Potts character or the lady who played Stuart Margolin's parole officer would be good matches for Rick. He needs someone rather bumbling to make him look more mature and in control. Plus either of those would be someone that TM and TC could be exceedingly fond of and respect. Someone who fits into their unique world by having gone through an adventure (or two) with them. Someone who is both very female but can also be "one of the boys." You wouldn't want any one of the guys to fall in love with someone who would tend to "split them up," take them away from what all they do together, with, and for each other. Someone who contributes to the group, not who takes one of them out of the relationship.

Am I saying this right?

Hey Golf,

I agree with that sentiment, but I'm not so sure of the Annie Potts character.

Rick does tend to be more of a ladies man, and Cleo seems an odd choice for him. My take would be the girl from "A Little Bit of Luck, A Little Bit of Grief".

OR

(drumroll)

I think the perfect girl for Rick is Bridget Archer from "Almost Home" (season 3). He was smitten with her from the first time he met her because she is street smart and knows the line on all the games. Cleo is not the right woman for Rick, he is to insecure. Another Match for Rick would be Louise DeBolt Jackson from “The Black Orchid” (season 1). Like Rick, she too likes to dress-up and play roles from the ‘40s. Rick's Bogart character would go well with her Black Orchid character.
The answer is obvious, old man. Logic is irrelevant. It's simply Tropical Madness. (J.Q. Higgins)
