Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

A week late to the party, but if anyone's interested in watching a commercial break from the original airing of The Taking of Dick McWilliams, here it is! Interestingly, it's a CBS feed, but from a local station in...Guam? Probably some military guy with a VCR wanting to be sure he didn't miss his favourite show!

Interesting to note the broadcast schedule for December 1981, with episodes on December 3, 17 and 24. Strange selection for Christmas Eve.

What great ads -- that's back when ads didn't totally suck.

Did you note that Ford Escort fuel economy?! 47 mpg! Wow.

Thought I forgot this week. Went to post it late. There was no episode on December 10th, 1981.

My boys (14 & 9) wanted to watch Magnum last night, so we were going to watch last night's season 2 ep, but since there wasn't one, we watched "Thank Heaven for Little Girls, and Big Ones Too."

Those Ford ads feature the voice of LA area DJ and actor Casey Kasem. He moved to LA radio in the early 60’s and became well known for his Top 40 broadcasts around the nation for many decades. He was also the original voice of Shaggy on Scooby Doo and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Casey was just as popular in Canada as he was across the US. I always remember my dad pointing out that he was Lebanese and you could tell by pronouncing Kasem the arabic way (ka-SEEM). This was novel because my dad’s heritage is also Lebanese and we too to pronouncing our family name in a more anglicized way in order to fit in. The old man was quick to point out any other famous people with Lebanese backgrounds like Paul Anka and Jamie Farr (Klinger on MASH).

We’ll…that was a bit of a tangent!

When I coached the varsity basketball team my first five years of teaching, I had a Lebanese student who idolized Rony Seikely from Syracuse. He was our team captain for four years and I’ve never forgotten his enthusiasm. This was in the late 90’s.

The "old man" didn't bear any resemblance to Darren McGavin from A CHRISTMAS STORY, did he?

I remember Rony Seikaly. Probably had his basketball card or something. The name immediately rang a bell.

As a matter of fact, yes. His dad even more so.

BUMP for tomorrow. A refresher.

Image

December 17th, 1981

[CBS 8:00] Magnum, P.I.

Season 2, episode 10

With Andrea Marcovicci (Kendall Chase), Corinne Camacho (Elaine Selmire), Signe Hasso (Lucia Prince), Doug Barden (Agent Barnett), Bob Fimiani (Agent Kelsey), Devon Guard (Martina Orsatti), David Palmer (KGB Agent).

As a favor to Robin Masters, Magnum finds himself acting as bodyguard to a famous ballerina, part of a visiting troupe, after several attempts have been made on her life.

I love how they develop TC’s character in this one.
