Shriner's Beach Club

#1 Post by Danno »

Someone posted a few videos on Youtube while doing a check on wedding locations- it shows you the view of the guest house from Shriner's next door.
Shriner's Beach Club was used in the third season's Foiled Again for the location of the fencing tournament.

If you were thinking of getting married on Oahu and couldn't hire the actual Anderson Estate, you could always go to Shriner's... 8)

Nice! Don't think we've ever seen the guest house from that angle before.

Do two steps make a stairway? ;)

Cool to see the inside of the Shriner's Club. Nice little stage they have in there. How awesome would be to jam inside that place with Rabbit Island and The Estate in the background! :)

It looks as though the Dowager Lady Anderson keeps the side of the guest house facing the Shriners Club in better shape than the rest of the property. Now a word of warning; when I hit that Powerball jackpot tonight and make the good Lady Anderson and her trust fund keepers an offer they can't refuse....If any of you do plan on having your wedding and reception there and you see me asleep on a hammock on the porch of the newley restored to TV version of the guest house, please keep the band music down a bit..................

It's interesting to see their rates to rent the place.
I didn't know King Kalakaua was a Shriner!

It appears as though the Shriners Beach Club was around before Pahonu by two years.......Shriners - 1931.....Pahonu -1933.

At around the 1:20 mark you can clearly see the wall dividing the two properties was built in two sections. The lower couple of feet are different to what's above and the mortar line is horizontal rather than random. This may imply that the two properties were once one. Why would you build such a low wall to divide your property from your neighbors. Perhaps it started as a landscaping feature like the courtyard walls of Pahonu, and was later heightened when the property was subdivided. Just a thought.

This article gives us an interesting timeline for the Moana Surfrider (a great hotel) and the Shriners. It mentions that in 1901 the first guests were 114 Shriners who paid a $1.50/night (not a typo). The Shriners have been around for a VERY long time. Walter Chamberlain (W.C.) Peacock could be one of Higgin's mates like Binky Farmbush and Corky Bostwick - great names. Kenji Osano (no relation) purchased the Moana and Royal Hawaiian in 1963. The Lucas Brothers built Iolani Palace so Dr.Wall`s father would`ve been hired by them as one of the architects on that build.
