Re: Al's Auto Hat
I think you did a great job. I would say that looks better than mine!only looking wrote:
Well, here it is guys. I took the look of the hat from the Season 1 episode called "Adelaide". It's the original version from "The Chinese Typewriter" due to the looks of the "G" in TIGERS. Then in Season 3, in the episode "The Eigth Part of the Villiage", you can see the red band is bigger and the lettering on tigers is also different. Like I said, I used the look, unfortunately, wasn't able to obtain 100% accuracy due to incompetancy on the patch maker. Also if you look the patch is sewn on slightly crooked. Same place--different person. Looks like incompetancy was contagious. The other patches on the other hats were attached by using patch attach-a fabric glue and so far they're staying stuck. The foam panels tend to slightly pull in when sewn on. There are still a few things I do like about my patch-I guess it's close enough. Not really But I settled!

Nice work. I wouldn't worry about the crooked patch. Remember TM's was crooked in "Squeeze Play" as well. You got the proportons right. Mine was a little flatter of an oval than the real one.
The "sponge" cap looks great and very authentic. I wanted that one, but was afraid to use that one because the stitching pulled it in. Also, someone told me you can't really stitch to the foam. You pulled that off great! Yours looks so much closer to the real caps than mine.
Anyone else get the idea that the real Al's caps were kind of cheaply made? Looking at the MPI DVDs, and The Chinese Typewriter, they don't look like the quality of the patch or the cap was that great.
By the way, I just bought the correct SEAL patch from Ebay. Now f I can just find the hat. No small chore. After that I just have to get my hands on a Get Wet cap, and the USC cap (avalable anywhere) and the main ones are complete.

Hey guys, I only have like 8 or 9 hats...2 were eliminated when they tried the stitching to the hat . If anyone is interested I'm selling them for $30.00 and that includes the shipping price, to anyone in North America. I know it sounds high but getting the patches made are higher than I expected. If anyone would be willing to wait, I also plan to sell some on ebay and if they sell ok on there, maybe I could drop the price $5.00 on the forum.Like I said they have a raw edge of the patch and it's touched up with red fabric paint on the edges. The are also attached with patch attach and not attached with the stitching. It pulls it in too much.I would trade one hat for one of those prop wallet sets that someone was selling awhile back.
It made me do it Higgins!!!

I was VERY picky and tracked down some older faom type trucker hats, so it was REALLY close..then spent alot of time as well on the patches themselves. Unfortunatley where I bought the hats from no longer carries them, so have found a few hats..but none I liked. So as of now, I have no hats to sell, sorry. But when I find more, I'll post here...Manserg wrote:to only looking
