I wrote a Magnum paper for my Communications class in College in 1989. It compared and contrasted the Episodes "Did you see the Sunrise." and "Going Home."
I don't remember what I got on the paper. A- maybe. The Prof in turn directed me to the article "reflections on Magnum PI" which James has posted on this website somewhere.
Very cool of the professor to even know about the article and direct you to such! Was he/she a Magnum fan or just well versed in the field of television?
I always assumed that he considered Magnum quality TV. The Class was "Television and the Contemporary Mind." The prof referred to it as a class in Visual Rhetoric. He believed that Visual rhetoric should be (especially in this day and age) considered at the same level as verbal and written rhetoric. That was his agenda. Since everyone had to take a couple of communications courses, his was always a great draw, since he was a cool prof and well we got to watch TV for homework.
Magnum was on TV in reruns in the afternoon and I chose to use that rather than a prime time show. I thought I could find the paper, but where I thought it was I turned up a more typical college paper on Appeasement in 1938. sigh...

Let's just say I wanted it, and am glad I got it, but its better to look at than to read.
Thats my impression too, Conch.
I have it for the collection, but dunno if I'll be reading it again in the near future.
