Pahonu balcony : Cast Iron Railing

#1 Post by Higgins (aka Bondtoys) »

Hello everyone,

Does any of you have screenshots of the Cast Iron Railing of the outside balconies, preferrably with Higgins on the balcony?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have one, but he stands on the driveway balcony in The Case of the Red-faced Thespian.

There is no closer view of the railing in this scene; all closeups were apparently shot on the sound stage so there is no balcony viewable in them.

Those are both good! They seem to show the same detailing of the balcony railing.

Thanks a lot.
Can anyone identify the location of this balcony - if possible with a screenshot from the show?

Hey Bondtoys,

Where did you get that shot? I've not seen such a clear image of the area, from that angle before. Do you have any more? This would have been very helpful a few years back in making my model.

Both of those balconies are at the back of the main house. The closer one is to the middle bedroom of the three upstairs suites. The two doors below are to one of the two downstairs bedroom suites. The farther balcony is to the upstairs bedroom suite that has a second balcony facing the driveway, the one shown above. Below it are two doors to the dining room. The vented windows are to the kitchen and other service rooms.

Have you seen my floor plans and model? They're located at the top of the page, here: http://magnum-mania.com/Forum/viewtopic ... start=2445

As far as this area being seen in the series, I can think of only two scenes, and neither had a character on either balcony. In both scenes, Magnum is seen coming through the gate very briefly. One episode is Distant Relative and the other is Skin Deep.. There are screen caps here. http://magnum-mania.com/Forum/viewtopic ... &start=180

Hope that helps!

Edit: I would also add that the railing detailing of these two balconies is entirely different than the large front balcony or the two facing the drive and the ocean. It's much simpler, without the scroll-work, but they do have ball-shaped finials lacking in the others. The balcony floor detailing is also different on these two, being shaped plaster in a unique barrel design. The smaller two balconies previously mentioned are wood framed floors, and the large balcony has a simple linear plaster detail with shaped plaster supporting brackets under the posts.

All three balcony types are shown on this page. The gate house has yet a fourth design, with a simple iron railing and floor, with iron brackets beneath.

I don't have a screen shot of it, but there is a close up in the final scene of "From Moscow to Maui" when TM is telling JH about the Army-Navy game.

When Pahonu was taken down earlier this year, I have managed to save these:

Yes, that's the decorative "ball" on the Pahonu balcony railing.

The other must be one of the window-keepers.

I have also managed to save these:

(from the amount of tarnishing, I assume that these have been mounted somewhere outside)

and 2 bricks:

a friend of mine went down to the construction site in April and saved these for me.

When I was on the island in October, I have met him and have gotten these items that then went to Germany in our luggage.

Because of that meeting, there was not enough time to drive down to Pahonu and have a swim in the tidalpoool, but it was certainly worth it!
