Magnum in HD (1080p) ?

Hello,

in Germany "Magnum p.i." is on air in reruns on a the HD-TV station ZDFneo HD (with 720p) and they say: "Yes, this is HD-Quality".
But I can't see better quality now in details. Can these broudcasts be better
than the DVD relaeses? Is any new optical scanning known ??

Also being from Germany, I noticed these airings. They are based on a cleaned transfer made beginning of the 90s. This transfer became the foundation for our german edition we have available on DVD today. Afaik it was a simple 1K transfer (definitly good enough these days for SD broadcasting and DVD releases) - which will and do not look much better than upscaled by a good DVD player and a HD Television set.

The good thing was that we got the uncut, original versions of the series - much better than the R1 DVD version in my opinion. But without a new transfer from the original elements of the show we will not see something better looking than what ZDF HD is broadcasting right now. It is slightly better than the DVD - but not much of an upgrade in my opinion. I will record my favourite episodes but in general I am fine with my DVD set.

I doubt Universal will create a new transfer, soon and release a decent BluRay Disc.

Regarding the 90s transfer ( done for RTL) I really enjoy the longerl running time, unfortunately the great Higginns dubbing from the ARD originals could not have been redone. They had to use another actor for the syncro

Can you guys tell me what time, day, channel Magnum is on? I'll be in Bonn later this week and I'd like to see the quality...even though I won't understand a word!

In buying the discs, I also need a mobile dvd player but there's mucho options. Are the discs dvd, hd dvd, blu ray? do the mobile players play all formats? too bad itunes doesnt offer the show yet.
