Semi off topic here. I'm all for getting something cheaper, but no replica site shows it looking like the real thing:

God that's the most beautiful watch ever. Look at the second photo.

Sorry, but am I the only one, who finds this a bit contradictory?

Additionally, how many years have you been using your fake in the water?

And you can put it in any possible way: Fakes are hurting the industry!

I have to agree with N1095A on this, I am sure if the people here had the money to buy a real one they would, But like he said not all of us here have that type of money but we still like the finer things in life for whatever reason.
Fakes , Knock offs, replicas it reall don't matter what you call it. What matter is if you are content with your purchase. To me it like buying something "generic" It looks like the name brand it feels like the name brand but it is whole lot more inexpensive than the name brand, To each their own.

 To be honest - I have one, since 25 years. It's not that I am a rich man, it's just a simple principle for me:
If I can't afford something, I don't buy it!
Or I save as long as it's necessary to get the real deal!

I just hate to see this wonderful forum turning into an advertising platform for this kind of shady business.
It's everyone's decision to buy or not these fakes (though it's bad taste imho), what really annoys me is, that links are being advertised here.
In most of countries, these copyright-violating fakes are illegal and I can't see very much of a difference between them and bootleged MPI DVDs (which are basically similar produced and distributed). I am sure, that advertising sources for bootleg DVDs is unwanted here, so some people may understand, that I don't keep silent on this topic.

So, why don't you to help your fellow members - who can't afford the genuine MPI series or who have better things to do with $ 249,-- than having genuine 36 DVDs in their collection - with a link, where they can get the complete series for less than 30 bucks?

The links would then represent the best choices you've found in your exhaustive research in this subject. You would never scold another member for their choice, nor ridicule them for it. It's a matter of personal opinion, and preference.

You see, there is not much of a difference ;)

But where do you draw the line? Does that mean all the MPI fans who can't afford a gold ring and bought a silver COL ring from eBay for a fraction of the price should hang their heads in shame as well? Since it's not the same as the original? Or for that matter any replica prop period such as found on JJ's merchandise links page eg. tshirts, caps etc since they're not original items but reproductions?

I can't justify buying the Rolex anytime soon, perhaps in 10-20yrs. I don't have a problem wearing a replica in the mean time - I'm not costing the Rolex co. any money as there is no way I'd be buying one. Now I know you're talking about the fake watch industry in general, but I'm one guy who just wants a cool looking watch that TM wore. Would I prefer an original? Of course, but it's not going to happen.

Anyway, not trying to cause tension, I like and appreciate this forum and all the contributors.

Wow Guys bring in the claws and see what N1095A has really done, I can not speak for him nor will I fight his Battles, But I have to say my two cents. I really don"t think he wanted this thread to turn into what it did, All he was trying to was help some of the people on this forum to obtain things that normally people could not afford, and I know I am going to miss quote sorry on that, He did say it is not about a brand name it is about a memory or a feeling he gets when he sees that watch real or not, I understand where some people are coming from where the money goes to, and what it use for, (to make myself clear I don"t support any of) But I really don't think nor do I believe he had that M O, He was just sharing what he found and was trying to be of help, and it has gotten way out of hand.

Thank you all people for the input.
My contributions have never been meant to start up or heaten up a war. To me it's a healthy discussion with opposing opinions, nothing more.

I am sure, that N1095A is a nice guy and has very good reasons for everything, that he's said.

The message from my posts is simple:

Fakes are bad!

You can find any possible reason for buying one (and most of them are very well-intentioned) but at the end of the day, all your money goes to very bad people with very bad intentions.

These are the same people, who are spamming my mailbox with fake Viagra, fake handbags, fake perfumes and all the mails from Nigerian emperors, who need my help to get huge funds released in some countries.

These are all organized criminals who mass-produce these fakes without caring for any legal rights of the original owner. Their products are cheap and have no intellectual value whatsoever. It's just a money-machine with profits similar to producing and distributing drugs.

Every individual, who buy these fake watches (insert fake handbags, software, what you want) may have his good personal reason for doing so and limited money is always a good reason! Believe me, I am extremely good in saving money! But does that mean, that I am buying fakes?

So, what I want to say is: The forum members are nice people. I am sure, that many people, who are buying fakes are good people! But they are doing a wrong thing as I have mentioned before.

"I am buying one fake watch, I am not doing any harm".
Sorry, that is wrong!
Everybody has his own good motives, but all together, we are million of consumers who support certain companies by buying their stuff or not.

The watch fora are full of people, who have been paying thousands of $ for a watch which turned out to be a fake.

The watch fora are full of people who don't want to buy a certain branded watch because they can see it everywhere. I'd say, that 75% of the watches, that they see are fakes! Does this hurt the watch company? Certainly yes! I could continue this list, but I think that these examples are enough.

Talk to people at Weber grills how fakes from China are affecting their sales. Same to people working at Lacoste, Ray Ban just to name a few.

Where to draw the line?

My fight goes out against these organized criminals who mass-produce fakes. It's not against the people who are buying them.

What really itches me is, that these people are supported by good people with good intentions (such as N1095A) by posting links to their webpages.

It's simply like posting links to companies, who are selling bootleg DVDs.

A single ring which is being done by a jeweller may violate copyright (I don't think so) but it's a fan project with much of passion and dedication. That's absolutely ok in my opinion, I would never critisize such.

I hope, that I have not been boring people to death and sorry, if I have offended anyone.

I'm not going to weigh in with an opinion - except that everybody should keep their tone respectful.

I have some fake watches and I have a real watch. I also have some other fake things I wear from time to time as well as some real things. It all has to do with accessing something that the fashion or jewellery industry has told us we need. Should I feel proud or stupid for advertising the fact that I have paid $200 for a t-shirt. Or should I feel good because I got one that looks the same and I got it for 5 bucks on a street corner. A private 'up yours' to industry, while chicks still think you're the man - after all, isn't that what it's all about in the end? One of the reasons TM as a character is so appealing to emulate (car, watch, mansion, not uptight, etc.) is how attractive he was/is to the opposite sex.

The most interesting thing I find about the current situation is how easy it is to get your hands on a knock-off watch these days! Back in the 80s or even 90s I really never would have thought someone's Rolex was a fake, but these days it's usually my first expectation - depending on the crowd. Good or bad? I dunno. It's certainly a different reality.

For the record though, there's a remarkable difference in the quality of my fake (high quality fake) watches and my real one - but there's also a huge difference in the up front price - not to mention maintenance fees over the years...it adds up and I could easily buy a new fake every year for what it costs to maintain a Rolex.

Interesting thread, despite the tension.

Rolex recommends you have your watch "serviced" every 2-3 years. This means they take it apart, remove the old lubricant and add new lubricant - Essentially, it's like an oil change in your car - it keeps the moving parts from wearing. I usually take longer to get the service done because it can run anywhere from $300-$500 - depending on if you get Rolex to do it or some other jeweller. While they're servicing, they typically point out areas of wear or issues they they feel need to be addressed. This is usually things you can't see and wouldn't have noticed otherwise - we're talking big bucks here. I had the main spring in mine go and ended up with a hefty bill. Really, it's a lot like taking your car to the mechanic.

I should point out that mine is pretty old - from about 1969 - so maintenance is going to be more of an issue than a new one. All that said though, I love it. It goes with me everywhere.

Why are the posts edited? That makes the discussion senseless. On other forums it isn't allowed to edit posts later on to keep the quality of the forum as a source for specific informations high and useful. I found many threads here on this forum where information has been removed or edited.
