Magnum P.I. Trivia Contest Prize Ideas

#1 Post by Higgy Baby »

Hi Guys-I'm hosting a Magnum P.I. celebration in New York at Otto's Shrunken Head tiki bar. Part of the show will be a trivia contest. I want to give away prizes that represent the four main characters. Nothing too expensive. Any ideas?

Don't know what you mean by not expensive -- under $10 or under $50? The parrot shirt ($60) or Detroit Tigers cap ($10?) for TM; an Island Hoppers T-shirt for TC (available onlinen from www.cafepress.com); an orchid for Higgins (or a safari-type shirt -- called a "camp shirt"?). I can't think of a THING for a Rick item, except an icepick and that'd be more of a gag gift than something someone would want to win.

I'm eager to hear thoughts from others on this board. So many good imaginations are shared here!

'Morning, Higgy Baby!

It's EARLY out here in the West so my brain is probably not fully awake. Also I'm not sure what you mean when you say "too expensive" but I've thought of a few "little" things...at least little, physically...that might make good prizes.

Striped suspenders...TC
Cigars...TM and JQH (All?)
DVD - Stalag 14...TM
DVD - Bridge on the River Kwai...JQH
Fake (but realistic) leis...All
Ferrari key ring...TM
Mercedes key ring...RW
Audi key ring...JQH
Volkswagon key ring...TC
Toy helicopters...TC (although they'd probably need a paint job - ??)
Baseball hats...TC and TM (there are certain teams, though - ??)
Plastic or plush Dobermans...JQH
Framed photo - Humphry Bogart...RW
Framed photo - William Holden...TM
Fake (but realistic...and big) Praying Mantis...RW

I don't know...I may be way off what you're looking for but there's my best shot at it.

Hope your celebration is a big sucess!!

:)

Wow, Agatha! I think your mind must be working overtime! LOVE the "big bug" -- if only he could find a bug mask!

Also -- how could this not come to mind first?? -- a rubber chicken!

These are brilliant ideas! And yes--the rubber chicken is already covered. In fact, there will be rubber chicken key chains on all the tables for everyone to take home. As for price--I was thinking of prizes around $15-20 bucks and under.
Thanks for all the excellent ideas so far-I knew I could count on you guys...

Way to go, golf!! I had trouble with Rick, too.

We have a thrift store that specializes in Halloween costumes. Value Village...or probably there's another one in your area. You could check with someone there to see if they have any gorilla masks left over...

The Dollar Trees and Wal-Marts here all have summer "luau" stuff put out now. So that would be good for leis and pineapple decorations, etc.

When is your party? How much time do you have to gather stuff? If there's anything special you can't find, maybe some of us could help and mail it to you.

Oh, and we want PICTURES of this party, by the way!!

Okay, who can get to NYC on June 18 for a first mini-Magnum-Mania convention? Who's in the northeast?

I love all the ideas, especailly the lot from you Agatha. what about fake mustaches, grouchy marx glasses, whoopie cushion. You guys should serve chilli dogs with pretzels and fig newtons..and of course coors beer in long necks. If you go with rubber chickens go to Mcphee.com, the right type..or at least one of the right types of chickens can be bought there..of course now they have a slightly different paint job.
It made me do it Higgins!!!

Ironically, the Thursday before your party, June 11, is King Kamehameha Day. Would have been a hoot to have the party that day, a state holiday in Hawaii!
