I built this playhouse for my daughter two years ago, and now she's 6, so I guess I still have some time before she outgrows it and I can co-opt it, but maybe I can convince her to alternate some of her tea parties with mai tai parties. If only it was closer to the pond and all that lush foliage......

What and where did you used to sail? That is quite a connection to Miami. I've only been once and had a great time. It seems Long Beach looks more tropical than I thought, because CSI Miami films all over the place here. I've even seen our place in an episode, and I don't really watch the show regu...

My wife is the gardener, but we don't have a yard. All our plants are potted on our two balconies. Some of them are quite tropical, like a banana palm, bougainvillea, and a few others. We live on a marina so I'm not complaining. We have a nice view, but it is more Mediterranean than tropical, I thi...

I don't have anything myself, but erock308 posted several shots of his very impressive backyard tiki bar a few years ago: http://magnum-mania.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=1820&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 Nice yard, I really like his pond, and how he used plants that have a sort of tropical look b...

Nice garden, Reef monkey . It looks quite Australian to me- tropical plants are popular here as you'd imagine. Our house doesn't have exactly a tropical garden though. Houston looks closer to the tropics than Sydney. Does it get humid in summer? Ooooooooh yeah. Houston's average relative humidity i...

Anyone else with tropical backyards
Looking at Peter (ConchRepublic's) great pics of his awesome backyard in the Ultimate Magnum Fan thread, so nice and tropical even though he's living in NY, got me thinking about how many of us might have tropically landscaped backyards, inspired at least in part by our love of Magnum and its Hawaii...

Magnum was ahead of his time. In 1980, who carried a 1911 or any other type of full-size semi-automatic pistol? Nearly all cops at the time carried revolvers, and private investigators usually carried snub-nosed .38s, at least on TV and in the movies (I've never met a private investigator in real l...

I do beliewve Hawaii 5-0 V1 comes close. As does SOA. I don't know, I think in its own way, Quantum Leap is on par with Magnum. Of course, it didn't have the ensemble cast (only Sam and Al) nor did it have the exotic locale, but it had excellent writing, a close male friendship that was a brotherho...

While there are awful episodes and winners thoughout the 8 seasons, I found the quality was best in the first four years and the second four years the quality dropped off substantially. I understand why this series came to an end when it did. I felt like Larry Manetti and Roger Mosley changed littl...

Nice one, Reef monkey . I like that house. Check out the work of Vladimir Ossipoff - he's probably the most famous mid-century modern architect in Hawaii. Living in Sydney, the Pacific Ocean is a big factor. I don't think I could live far from it. It's so different to the Atlantic. Need salt water ...

Re: Magnum lifestyle on the cheap
Thanks for all that Reef Monkey. Very useful advice! So what do you recommend for an ocean-front estate? Marry into money. Seriously, though, while we can't all live in Hawaii, or even on the ocean, there are steps you can take to "Magnify" your house. If your wife doesn't mind, or you have a "man-...

Larry Manetti, in a Rick-like character, was such a great gift to both MPI and H50 fans. There have been several really great guest spots on H50 - George Takei (Star Trek's Sulu) as Chin-Ho's moonshining uncle, Scott Caan's dad the great James Caan as a retired NY police detective, Ed Asner twice, J...
