I wanted to take a picture of the Magnum washing up liquid in the Aldi store window when I was there, but I found I had taken my camera but without the memory card.

Well, usually the dogs are owned by the dog handler, not the actors on a show. The actors actually spend very little time with the dogs, just the few scenes where they appear. The rest of the time the dogs aren't even on the set. So after the show ended, they would have gone to live with the handler...
