Re: The Great Hawaiian Adventure Company (8.9)

Ugh, I gave it a 6. (I still don't understand a rating system that starts at 5.) Higgins would have to be VERY into playing his role if he is Robin Masters, given his scenes alone regarding his novel. The crates of car parts: two or three of them at best would have fit in the chopper. It's a passeng...

To answer a question from 14 years ago, yes, that was a Betamax tape. Consumer machines muted the sound when scanning forward or back, though, so there should not have been the chipmunk chatter while he was rewinding. Note the car door sound that became a major plot point later on is not heard here....

I never liked Carol but that was the writing's fault, not the actress'. I finally liked, and even cared about her here, and Kathleen Lloyd gave a fine performance.

Now, the bit player playing her fellow prosecutor... p-u!

Teeny tiny nitpicking flub:

The standard Universal telephone ring sound effect is used when TM gets the call. But his phone is not an old style kind with a bell. It's one of those kinds that has autodial buttons and such. It's electronic, so it should have had an electronic ring.

Re: Pleasure Principle (8.2)

In-story, I took the repetition of Conga as Higgins having gotten a cassette single of it after having danced to it at the club. After that first time, every time we hear it is when he's driving the Ferrari. Agreed about the candles, production would've soaked them in lighter fluid or something to m...

Thought y'all would enjoy this CBS promo for this episode. It's interesting in that it's sort of in-universe, with Rick, TC and Higgins in character. I randomly got it while recording something else on VHS back in the day.

Re: The People vs. Orville Wright (7.21)

I was going to ask about TM's gun as well. They did mention there was two guards, so he must've gotten it from the other one, and they didn't shoot it (or edited it out). I think the nose thing was just so they could add a running gag about people commenting on it. I don't think there would be a rea...

I voted Average At Best, but Dana again is wonderful, and I think they did a great job with the awkward scenes. People are complaining about the awkwardness, but that was the point! They respect each other so much that they're erring on the side of caution and not making presumptions. It was nice th...

Regarding "Coors" bottles, they were probably lookalike labels from Earl Hays Press, which has supplied such things to the industry for many decades. My take was he was saying things in Chinese or Mandarin while he mentally searched for how to say them in English. I thought it was charming!

Is it just me or did it seem like Magnum was a little tough on the babe at the end? He was mad at her because she decided to get the scoop after all? Isn't that kind of her job? And isn't it even more commendable when reporters pursue dangerous stories? I agree. He says she "put him in the middle o...

Julie Hagerty did not land a plane in Airplane! There is no comic named "Huey, Dewey and Louie on Vacation". There was a Donald Duck comic named "Vacation Parade" which features those characters, but even its original printing isn't worth much. However, the comic he is holding IS a Whitman comic, wh...

I enjoyed this one. Just touching on some years-old comments in the thread: Where cigarette smoke is drawn into the lungs, cigar smoke is just drawn into the mouth and sometimes the sinuses. And yes, the tobacco is different (different leaves of the plant, and often different strains of plant altoge...

Re: Novel Connection (7.9)

Although aware of different versions, I was still confused by some the comments (Tanaka, karate chop) until I finally learned those are references to the second episode. :) I watched on Amazon Prime, which has the one-and-done version. I did follow up with the MSW episode, though. Regarding Magnum b...
