Re: The Rockford Files

I definitely didn't write it; she talks about The A-Team and other '80s bilge. I would have discussed the show much in the same dryly academic way as I have in this very thread! 80s bilge? :x I don't think I like this dissertation anymore. :( I've read some more of the Rockford thesis, which...

Re: The Now Playing Thread!

As a high school teacher, I would say most kids are very into what’s new and current as you explained. There are some though, and they are often really neat kids, who are into older things. It’s fun to talk with them. I’m realizing maybe I was one of those kids… and perhaps you too? I’m also thinki...

Re: Hawaii Five-O: Any Fans?

I enjoyed it, too. I just don't "get" why T.Q. has such hostility for me; it's like I'm John Lennon and he's Mark David Chapman. :? S4 of MPI showed some "cracks in its armor." Little did they know that the show would decline precipitously--ratings and quality-wise--beginning in S5, when The Cosby S...

Re: Hawaii Five-O: Any Fans?

I don't get it. Did it offend you in some way that I watched the series and discussed with Z-Ivan for two years? Watergate break in: June 17, 1972 US President Richard Nixon resigns: August 8, 1974 Also (Just about) two years. No offense taken, and no offense given. Magnum-Mania is a small sandbox....

For those interested, here's a 1989 thesis on Magnum-Mania's favorite TV series, The Rockford Files:

Re: The Now Playing Thread!

I guess it has to do with who we hang around with. One of my best friends in elementary and middle school was black and I remember being at his house his father watching some of them at the time. So I was aware of them in the 70’s and early 80’s. I kind of forgot about them in high school but in co...

Re: The Now Playing Thread!

Black Caesar is just a great gangster film straight up, not just from the blaxploitation genre, including the score. Sadly, most people have even heard of it. Fred Williamson is very good, and I still keep an eye out for his work. My favorite of his is probably Black Eye, where he’s a detective. It...

Re: The Rockford Files

Hey! My favorite S6 TRF episode--Only Rock 'n Roll Will Never Die--has an NBC promo! That's quite a big deal since few people had VCRs in 1979, and even fewer people were watching Rockford's network, NBC.

Re: Murder, She Wrote - Magnum on Ice

For some reason I thought the Joan Fulton character was played by Stephanie Beacham - she certainly had her look. I love a vampish villan like her. Jessica Walter would have been fairly well known or at least recognizable to US viewers when the episode aired, as she was a ubiquitous presence on Ame...

Marvel Legends' Iron Man Stealth Armor Suit action figure. https://i.ibb.co/wKcf9v3/36-E40-ABC-3-E40-40-C3-AD7-E-7-A66-AFE7442-A.jpg Now where the heck was this cool action figure in August 1981 when then-10-year-old Garwood would have wanted it? Iron Man #152 had just hit the stands. It was the iss...

Re: The Now Playing Thread!

Miles Davis and his "Second Great Quintet" have four albums I listen to frequently.

Here's "Agitation" from the 1965 album E.S.P.. I realize no one here listens to jazz, but I've been doing so for 30 years (not continuously, though at times it's felt like it):
