Did you have a different take?
No. That is why your post seemed strange to me. I apologize about the paywall (I did not get it). It is probably a simple java script one that I would not see.

Re: Kyiv? Where did that come from?

Okay, so I should have done some reading before declaring it as just an innocent difference in spelling. Most of my previous comments stand, but I should have known there was more to it. Just like the movement from Wade Giles Chinese spellings to pinyin, it was political in nature. Beijing didn't l...

Kyiv? Where did that come from?

Until now I was puzzled why Kiev is suddenly now Kyiv and why it is pronounced differently. I figured it was one journalist that decided to change it overnight and the other journalists went with it as they are prone to do so as to seem smart. It's not. Ukraine prefers it that way because it is clos...

Re: Life Learnings Thnx to MPI

I learned how to be inconspicuous when spying on people. You need to be able to blend in with the scenery so as not to stand out. A good way of achieving this is by sitting in a red Ferrari 308. Peoples' eyes just glaze over that like it is not there.

Re: COVID19 Protocol

I am just very disappointed by how the government and by extension the media (and big tech) handled all aspects of COVID-19. None of it was based on science or logic (or even common sense). Instead it was based on politics, greed, and power. And the silencing of people, especially doctors who dared ...

Saigon Sally was mentioned in "Did you see the Sunrise?" as well. After TC and Nuzo met TC is driving them in the van. Nuzo says something like, "Remember that time I heard that Saigon Sally had a case of bubblegum and you were willing to pick it up and they shot up the Cobra (attack helicopter)?"

Re: Never Again ... Never Again (1.7)

That is interesting and I was unaware of the cutout gunshot. It would have been when they cut to an exterior shot of the boat. Why would the director decide on that shot unless something like a gunshot was happening off camera? So a part of the episode that no longer exists is "suicide by Magnum." L...

Re: Try to Remember (2.15)

Given the title of the episode it is coincidental that I have no recollection of ever seeing this before just now. Today could have been the very first time I saw it, so that was a pleasant surprise for me. To boot, it was a pretty good episode.

- Any the russian fighters that were commissioned in 1980 did have the (direct) range to reach Hawaii from the Kamchatka Peninsula. I read earlier in this topic that only one russian defected pilot succeded in defecting to the West that way. That is right. If my memory serves me right, it was in 19...

Re: Season 1 General Discussion

Just purchased the season 1 DVD set and have been getting into the pilot episode. Yes, the preceding “please” at the beginning of the episode name does jar. Tut, tut. Coincidentally tonight I just finished re-watching season 1. My Magnum collection was tragically lost so now I am rebuilding it one ...

I will make something positive out of it by watching the whole thing once again and downloading it from a Blu-ray rip found on a Swiss server (they do not care about US laws) as I go. So far I have Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii and watched half it last night (forgot that it was two hours and I had t...

All is lost

The laptop with Magnum, P.I. on it went to all hell yesterday. When it was only halfway to hell I managed to backup 84 gigs of stuff, but Magnum did not make it (neither did The Rockford Files). Where were my priorities? What was I thinking? No matter I thought, I will just get a new laptop tomorrow...

Re: Magnum vs. James Bond

Relying on absurdly fantastical gadgets does not make for a badass. Then again I never liked the Bond books and movies. To Bond's credit, he never got beat up by two spandex clad women like Magnum did.

So the guy was ferrying a Cessna 172 from Van Nuys, CA to Oahu. That is a distance of 2,550 miles. A Cessna 172 at 10,000 feet and 45% power has a range of 638 nautical miles (734 miles) according to https://www.cessnaflyer.org/specifications-172.html . He would not get even close to Hawaii unless h...
