Re: All Roads Lead to Floyd (1.13)

I really like Noah Beery, Jr. but I will always remember this show as the "wild goose chase" episode.

Re: Lest We Forget (1.10)

One of the very best, if not the best, epidsodes, clearly my favorite and clearly the most memorable for me. Using two established names such as June Lockhart and Jose Ferrer with their children to depict them at an earlier age was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the way Scatman Crothers was include...

Re: Beauty Knows No Pain (1.18)

This episode was a ton of fun to watch. Marcia Wallace is just too good and played a fantastic role. Stuck in my mind is a scene where she and TM are riding in the back of a bus and she offers to share a sandwich with him to save expenses. It was great to see the gang, including Higgins, come togeth...

Re: J. "Digger" Doyle (1.17)

This episode was as memorable as any of them. What else can I say about it that hasn't been said. Definitely a top ten in my list.

Re: Thicker than Blood (1.12)

This one will stay in my memory forever. As I wrote in the Welcome Wagon thread, I had just moved to Kansas City as a career move and had spent my first day alone unpacking and trying to find the grocery store, the gas station, the pizza parlor, etc., etc., when I sat down that evening to watch TV. ...

Re: The Curse of the King Kamehameha Club (1.11)

This episode was a "pure" Hawaii show. There was no connection to Vietnam, the military or WWII and Pearl Harbor or any international connection. It was Hawaii and Kahunas and curses. It did show how flaky Rick could be. It had a good showing by Gretchen Corbett who was a familiar face from Rockford...

Re: No Need to Know (1.5)

This one had a lot of characteristics of MPI. International considerations, intrigue, suspense, plot twists, babes, comedy, Higgins vs. Magnum, Magnum borrowing from TC and just a generally good, good show.

Re: The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii (1.8)

Just plain goofy...but all MPI episodes were considered pretty good back in 1980-1981!!

Re: Skin Deep (1.6)

Of all the first season episodes and for that matter most of the other episodes, this one leaves little in my memory banks. Even after I read the synopsis and commentary and forum postings I still cannot remember much about it. It just did not affect me. Many people talk about how strong this episod...

Re: Murder, She Wrote - Magnum on Ice

I recently read an article that the crossover with Murder She Wrote was to help MPI with its falling ratings. A couple of articles both mentioned that MPI had fallen out of the top 30 shows in its 6th Season (1985-86) all the way to 48th and it was Jessica Fletcher to the rescue as her show was clea...

Re: Thank Heaven for Little Girls and Big Ones Too (1.4)

A lot of descriptive terms like goofy, lightweight, unbelievable, and too cutesy have been applied to the low image of this episode. I liked it simply because it did a complete turnaround from the super serious, dramatic and violent pilot movie and first episode. But my liking it doesn't mean it was...

Re: China Doll (1.3)

I can see now why this was a top rated episode. I worried at first (Yes...back in 1980) how much Asian connection was going to be in MPI (since the pilot movie included a strong southeast Asian/Chinese connection) and more importantly how much violence this show would depict. The Choi character was ...

Re: Missing in Action (1.9)

This is one of many of the first season episodes that sticks in my mind and has for thirty-five years! Why, I don't know since it really isn't one of the best but I thought it was pretty good. (It was early in the series, though) I definitely like Rebecca Holden for obvious reasons even if she isn't...

Re: The Rockford Files

Kind of off topic, but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone else think that James Garner rarely had chemistry with his female romantic interests? I'm a dude, so I'm not the best judge of these things but there rarely seemed to be a "spark" there. I never really noticed it until I watched Maverick and reali...

Re: Season 1 General Discussion

Season 1 was, in my humble opinion, by far, the best of all. In the thread Best and Weakest Seasons I posted the average ratings of all episodes for all eight seasons and Season 1 came in second by a little less than 12/100 of a point. Make a note that I have not voted yet on my favorite episodes ye...
