Does anyone have any Magnum P.I. themed animated gifs they would like to share?
or
Do you have an thoughts on scenes/shots that would make good animated gifs?

Re: Animated gifs?
Well, I'll post one to get us started:
This is a slightly tweaked version of a pic from the opening scene of season seven's "A.A.P.I."

Hi Marlboro,
I don't have any, but I love the ones you have posted!
Add the ones you have posted in other threads as they are great!!
I do remember someone posting one about a year ago, but I can't remember in what thread.
I'll put my thinking cap on and see if I can find it for you.

Thanks!
If anyone has any suggestions for gif ideas, I'm all ears. I can't guarantee that they will turn out worth a darn, but I'll give it a shot.
I usually watch an episode late at night, and I'll think to myself "that would make a good gif" and then I promptly fall asleep and forget all about it.

Re: Animated gifs?
It can be a bit intimidating at first, but anybody can do it with a little practice. I'm certainly no computer expert. I'll update this post with a few tips in a minute. . There are some shortcuts that will give you a quicker gif but with lower quality results. And I think there are easier ways of doing this with Photoshop and Gimp, but this is how I do it:
First you need to decrypt your dvd. A free program like "DvdDecrypter" can do that for you. You will end up with several "vob" files. Play them in your favorite media player to find the appropriate scene. I use "VLC" media player.
Once you have determined the vob file that contains the correct scene, use a program like "VirtualdubMod" to open the vob file. Drag the marker until you find the scene you want. Use the little arrows to mark the beginning and ending of the frames you want to select. Once you have those selected, go to "File" and choose "Save Image Sequence." You will save all of your selected frames in a new folder. be sure to save them as PNG files so you don't lose any quality.
Now you need Gimp or Photoshop to turn those frames into an animated gif. I use Gimp because it is free. Open Gimp. Go to "File." Choose "Open as Layers" and browse until you find the frames you have just created. Select all of them.
Now if you are experienced with Gimp or Photoshop there are millions of things you can do to alter these images. I am not an expert to put it mildly. You could spend years learning how to use these programs. Thankfully, you don't have to do that to make a decent looking gif. Once you have made whatever changes you want to make in Gimp, click on Image, then Mode, and choose Indexed. Choose "optimum pallet." Under Dithering, choose "Floyd Steinberg reduced color bleeding." Click Convert.
Just about done.
In Gimp, click File. Now click "Export as." name your file. Make sure it has a ".gif" extension. On the last popup make sure you hit "Save as Animation."
And that should do it.
If you have any questions, just let me know. There are a lot of little things that can help you fine tune your gifs. Size/quality adjustments and such.

Sure, I'll give it a try. Just give me a specific episode and scene and I'll see if I can come up with something.KENJI wrote:I like the one you did from Death & Taxes!
