Prop question

#1 Post by eeyore »

Anyone every notice the item that hangs from the rail next to the kitchen or the stair rail, that looks like a semi circular shaped purse? It is tan in color and has a knob like shape protruding from it. I have never seen anyone holding it. On another forum someone suggested it might be a binoculars case but it seems too wide and too short (top to bottom). I am sorry I can't list the episodes but it is from the earlier seasons.

eeyore,
The bag was seen in numerous episodes, this from "Mad Buck Gibson" As you said it doesn't look like a binoculars case.It does look like a purse.

Magnum with a "man purse"? No way! :)
Higgins: It's not a scratch! It's a bloody gouge!

Could it be one of those devices that is a drinking bladder? I could never see Magnum with a murse.

Sounds like a good question for Rick Romer. Here's a closer shot from the same scene, with the second picture brightened a bit:

I believe I did mention it to Rick but I was so vague he couldn't help. Even close up this looks like a really odd "whatever". It looks flat and there is a buckle on the strap and the knob like protrusion looks like a stand up "ring" of some sort.

Maybe a canteen carrier or bladder of some sort?

Thought of that, I wondered if it was some sort of military issue?

Should we offer a free tour by Island Hoppers to the first correct guess?

I say it is a pre-"double beer can hard hat" contraption wherein Magnum straps the device on and sets his longneck in it........Probably while lounging on the hammock.......

It's used for deepsea fishing rods, you put the butt of the hand in the round part and you can get more leverge on the big fish. You ware it in front like a belt.

They are called fighting belts. The one in MPI must be old it's made of leather, something Hemingway would have used. I would say it's pre 1940 the newer one's are white plastic. :)
