Concerning the paniolo growers from this episode, I heard on the news today that doctors have issued new warnings about hootch. Apparently it really does do serious long term damage to the brain. They don't call it dope for nothing...
Who's Dot Matrix, and what has she got to do with this?

Mac, please stop spamming the boards about "smoking weed". I'm not anti-cannabis or anything (although it's been a long time since I've danced with the chronic), but this isn't the place for it.

Plus, we all know that Magnum and T.C. are strongly against it! ;)

This episode always makes me laugh! It shows that people can be silly, no matter what they're doing! It was the first MPI episode to air the Mike Post theme we all know and love. And the title is interesting. In my life, I don't have the ugliest dog in Hawai'i! Instead, I have the handsomest cat in California (only his breath is ugly!). 8)
I just don't give a damn!

Sir Algernon Farnsworth is a cute little dog three idiotic mobsters want to "dognap" for some unkown reason.
The dog is owned by a V.I.P. lady so Higgins asks (i.e. forces) Magnum to protect him.

First thing first, I like animals (and dogs particularly) so I don't understand why Algie is called ugly, I find him very cute.
I usually like episodes with a light mood so this one is on my list.
There are several funny moments, like the chasing in the banana plantation or Sharon being afraid of dogs while she is supposed to be not.
DiGiorgio is a little stereotyped character as the Italian (supposedly Sicilian) gangster.
All in all a good episode, entertaining to watch, with a "special" guest star!
Like it!

Plus: the lovely Shawn Hoskins!
Minus: maybe the bad guys are a little too silly.
Best line:
(the lads are locked in a cage)
Magnum: Cheer up Higgins. They'll forgive you...someday
Higgins: Oh, they quite understand.
Believe me Magnum, I've explained to them precisely who's responsible for their incarceration.

(the lads growl)

Notes:
- team ring on the left hand.
- if I am not wrong in this episode Magnum wears his eyeglasses for the first time.
- Magnum wears his Detroit Tigers, but not for the first time. "China Doll" was the first time.
- Post/Carpenter's theme is used on ending credits, although in a different (longer) version.
- as far as I remember Michael V. Gazzo is the first of two actors who had a role in "The Godfather" trilogy, to appear on MPI. The other one is Lenny Montana in "Italian Ice" (2.16).
- as usual, same actor/different character: Kathleen Nolan plays Gloria Marston here and will return as Myrt Callahan in "Double Jeopardy" (2.19).

Funny thing: some bloopers and outtakes can be seen during the ending credits.
"Zeus, Apollo, get out of my Ferrari!"
"Mr. Masters' Ferrari"

This is probably one of the worst, if not the worst, episodes of the series! :x I would rather watch "Thank Heaven For Little Girls and Big Ones Too" than this junk!

The plot/script is beyond stupid and pathetic, and it was just too slap-stick comedy for "Magnum". The writers must have had a hangover when they came up with this one.

The only interesting aspect to this episode is that I think it's the first one that has the "Magnum" theme music as the background music. Now, this still has that original, boring theme song at the beginning...but during action or suspense scenes the "true" Magnum theme music is used.

I wonder if they just originally created the theme to be used during action parts of the episodes...then liked it well enough that they created a full version to be used as the actual theme song for the start of the show.
"It was more ironic than a Robin Masters novel--she thought he was dead, he thought she was dead...and only the chauffeur knew the truth! He should have been the butler!" "Lest We Forget"

Luther, I think its pakalolo not paniolo and I always thought hooch was slang for alcohol. Anyone else know?
