Re: Our "Magnum Mania" screen names
Resurrection time . . .
I like all the thought that goes into the names and the association to MPI people put into their screen names but I think my fave is "IKnowWhatYoureThinking" . . . it kinda sums up Magnum to me.
Now, why don't I have a Magnum related name? Well, back in the infancy of the web I had different names for each place I joined. NYCWDWFan . . . R8RMan . . . Wigman20 (long story) . . . many more . . . too many to keep track off and coordinate passwords for. Then I decided that I should just go with a global interwebs nom de plume for sanity's sake!
I combined my love of the Florida Keys, The Conch Republic, and the fact that I truly hope to retire somewhere close to there (the tiki bar will have to do until then), with my expanding political thinking, education and exchanges (although Conchservative would probably be more on target) and decided ConchRepublican was a nice little play on things.
I wish I had more imagination to go with a more "Magnum-centric" guise, but I'd have to start a notebook to keep track of things and I'm way too lazy for that.

Re: Our "Magnum Mania" screen names
I used to play NTN trivia at a local bar and team names had a 6 letter limit so I dropped the "a" from stealth and I've used that name ever since.
Re: Our "Magnum Mania" screen names
I wish I'd thought of something more Magnum-related, there are some really great names on here. Louise is actually my middle name and I tend to use it as my internet name, so that's why I used it on here.
I would've loved to have picked Agatha but that was already gone!
Talking of names, and slightly off-topic, I just wanted to share some sad news. My cat Thomas had to be put to sleep about six weeks ago, he was sixteen and had a bowel tumour and was starting to get very unwell. He was, of course, named after TM (and TS)!

Sorry about your cat, it's hard to lose a pet!
Ever since I got on the internet, I've used the name Big Wave Dave, or BWD, with would have been fine for this site as well. After trolling the site for a few weeks and seeing all the MPI related names, I knew I wanted one too! The first few names I picked where already in use and I was about to registrar as Big Wave Dave, when I saw the episode that Robin gave TM the password "Rosebud", and the rest is how they say, history!

I'm really sorry to hear your cat died, Louise. 16 is pretty good!
Rosebud, I had assumed it might have been a Citizen Kane reference. I guess it is in Magnum.
Steven Spielberg has the original Rosebud just as a random fact for you there...

Re: Our "Magnum Mania" screen names
Thank you, guys.
I might ask James if I can change my screen name, if inspiration hits me and I can come up with something good. I'm surprised none of the women on here picked Michelle - that seems an obvious choice. Or I could be Carol, but I get the impression she's not a very popular character with a lot of you! I'll keep those in mind as a back up options.

Louise, I'm so sorry for your loss. My wife and I adopt shelter cats so we have had too much experience with losing pets. It's not easy and 16 years seems long until it's over and then it's not nearly long enough. Take comfort in knowing you were there to accept his love and take care of him during his illness and that now he's happy and pain free, playing across the Rainbow Bridge, no doubt in a red Ferrari waiting for the time you guys meet again . . .

Re: Our "Magnum Mania" screen names
It is indeed both. I thought it was so clever the Magnum episode used Rosebud after I fount out Orson Welles was the voice of Robin. I'm talking about back in the 80's when I understood this. Great Welles film and a sly Magnum reference to its star and director.Danno wrote:I'm really sorry to hear your cat died, Louise. 16 is pretty good!

Re: Our "Magnum Mania" screen names
Very belated Thank You, Conch. My Thomas was also from a rescue shelter and had been a stray - he was about two years old when I got him, so after that shaky start in his life, he had a very comfortable 14 years with me. The image of him in a red Ferrari made me smile - before he got ill, he used to like being outdoors as much as possible, and when it rained (as it did for most of last year here in the UK), he would sit on the roof of my car under the car-port. Or if the engine was warm, he liked to sit on the bonnet. So the roof, bonnet and windscreen of my car were always covered in mucky paw prints - I can just imagine Higgins' reaction if that happened to the Ferrari. OH! MY! GOD!ConchRepublican wrote:Louise wrote:Talking of names, and slightly off-topic, I just wanted to share some sad news. Re: Our "Magnum Mania" screen names
Hi guys. I am fairly new to the forum - 2 weeks. Sorry about your cat Loiuse- it has been a while but you have my warmest sympathy. Over the years I have lost a few cats... but the love they give and life they share is so wonderful I cant imagine life without them!As far as hanging around your car, my cat here in Miami does the same. I have a candy apple red TOYOTA full of mucky paw prints hahah but in my mind it is a red Ferrari....
As far as my screen name- I always wanted to be a female Magnum, I related to him so much . I also wanted a feminine name. I watched the originally aired Magnum as a young teen with my parents. I was born in America- but my parents were born in Yorkshire. We loved the American/ English relationship of Magnum and Higgins of course. And we often laughed at the culture clash together.
Artie Canoe cracked me up as well. Thanks for all the fun screen names . I like racking my brains for the references. I wanted to see "Tommy" as in Tommy is the name of a boy with an all day sucker ...........

Re: Our "Magnum Mania" screen names
As this is my 100th post I thought what better time to explain my on screen name as I don't think I have yet.
I use Charybdis1966 for blogging on a variety of sites, mainly soccer(football) sites but it's origins are from a minor character (Karibdis, from the episode Murder on the Rising Star) from the series which I take my on screen avatar, namely the original Starbuck from classic Battlestar Galactica.
So now you know.

Ha ha, the more obscure the better, I say.
