Magnum owns the casino because he inherited a fortune from Robin Masters/Higgins serveral years ago. Maybe Luther Gillis could come to Vegas for a visit.
Great ideas LHG. However, you may have to get a different bartender. I don't know if Magnum would want Kioki tending bar in his billion dollar casino since he conspired to knock off the KKC. The last time we saw Kioki he was being hauled off by Lt. Tanaka. Since your idea had Magnum inheriting the funds necessary (from Robin) to buy the casino, lets assume for the sake of argument that Higgins is Robin Masters (I don't believe this to be the case, but I do agree it makes for a much better story). If Magnum inherited enough money from Robin/Higgins in order to buy the casino, then obviously, Robin is no longer with us. John Hillerman could appear at various times during the series similar to Mac returning in "Infinity and Jelly Doughnuts," "Limbo," etc. The twist could be that it is revealed that Higgins/Robin Masters is actually Magnum's little voice that we always heard so much about. Except now we get to see Robin/Higgins as the "little voice" instead.
The answer is obvious, old man. Logic is irrelevant. It's simply Tropical Madness. (J.Q. Higgins)

You take this stuff much too seriously. Relax, have fun...

I just read a few minutes ago that Las Vegas has been cancelled. Its no wonder. Terrible writing and a graveyard timeslot. I don't think even American Idol would make it on Fridays at 10 pm...

The show was far beneath TS anyway. He is a much better actor than that show deserved. Maybe Jesse Stone will move to Hawaii...

I am very disappointed Las Vegas is canceled, if true, I hope not.
I enjoyed seeing TS every week.
Anyway. I have an interesting bit of information about the last show.
During Cooper's memorial service there was a gentleman singing, his name is James Blunt.
Well, it seems Mr. Blunt has something in common with Higgins.
They both went to Sanhurst.

Just found this (this morning's news, apparently):
There'll be "a little less conversation" on NBC this fall without Las Vegas closing out the week. Michael Ausiello at TV Guide and E! Online's Kristen are both reporting that the cast and crew of Las Vegas have been notified that after five seasons, the series has played its last hand.

While many fans have been greatly disappointed with the series since James Caan left the show, some felt that casting Tom Selleck breathed new life into the series. Whatever the case may be, the 7 million viewers who tuned in each week clearly weren’t enough to please TPTB over at NBC.

Will Danny and Delinda live happily ever after? Will Sam ever find true love? NBC hasn't indicated whether or not they'll wrap up the loose ends, so this may be one of those times when viewers will have to use their imagination. However, I don't imagine Las Vegas fans will forgive NBC anytime soon if those loose ends are forever left dangling.
The source is tvdramas.about.com. Guess we'll know in a few days . . . . can't say I'm surprised. The show is pretty lame. I'll miss it only because I won't have TS (what very little there was!) to look forward to on Friday night. That should tell you how boring my Friday nights are if I was actually LOOKING FORWARD to this dreadful show!

P.S. Looks as though the rumor seems to be getting closer to actuality. Here's another report:

I just posted this in a thread about Jesse Stone, but I found this item out at: http://www.philly.com/dailynews/columni ... stars.html

Tom Selleck ("Las Vegas") talks with Ross Brittain and the Breakfast Club on 98.1 WOGL Thursday morning...

Selleck also talks about the cancellation last week of "Las Vegas." The move baffles him because the show had decent ratings and good demos, and was one of TiVo's five most most popular shows. He thinks that NBC is just a little crazy lately with all the reality shows and that it'll probably replace "Las Vegas" with another reality show.

For more with "Magnum P.I." check out the whole interview Thursday morning.

Thanks for the information.
I just listened to the interview on their website.
I posted a message to let everyone know they could still listen to the interview on the WOGL website.
I put it under the Tom Selleck area.
I should have put it here.
Anyway thanks again, always like to see or hear any news about Tom.

I think it's time for a Jesse Stone TV series. Serves NBC right for cancelling TS on LV if CBS picks him up and gives him his own show! Maybe he could be executive producer (as he is with the Jesse Stone made-for-TV movies, I think) and could bring in Larry Manetti and Roger Mosley as town characters.

Otherwise, my other idea would be for TS to develop his OWN series -- "Magnum, U.S.N. Ret." and have him starting his own private security company after he retires from the Navy. He could be based in Virginia or Maryland -- somewhere around D.C. I know PSCs have gotten a lot of bad press lately with the Blackwater/Iraq coverage, but there ARE some good ones and I think they employ a lot of ex-Special Ops guys. TS as TM could run it and they could even have Josh Duhamel and James Lesure as ex-Navy Seals and use them in the series with TS again, to bring in the younger viewers with male "cheesecake" and have lots of action. And hopefully Thomas could have more of a sense of humor than A. J. Cooper! I'm not sure how to work Rick and TC into this scenario, unless TC has gone into helicopter design and development (and test flying) for military/attack helicopters (I think there's a lot of infil and extract using helicopters in Spec Ops) and Rick goes back to his weapons specialization (he's the new Q, a la James Bond movies!) and is hired by TM to run that part of the business.

This would be the Magnum reunion we all want with the characters currently updated, but in "today's" world. Think JAG or NCIS with Thomas Magnum and crew, plus LV alums (minus the ditzy women, unless we want to bring Piper in as Lily -- now there's a whole 'nother potential!). The more I think about it and try to develop it, the more I like it. Jesse Stone is too depressing.

What do you guys (and gals) think?

golfmobile,
That is a fantastic idea for a show. Sounds like a hit to me.
Yes, Piper could be Lilly, Josh could be Rick's son and James could be TC's. Now all we have to do is get in touch with Tom and sell the idea to him. Hey, Sellecklover lives close to him. I vote we send her, I'm sure she could convince him. That would be such a hit show.
You have such good ideas, maybe you could be one of the writers.
We can always dream!

sophia,

I hadn't thought of making the LV guys the sons of the original characters, but that's a GREAT idea! That just caps it perfectly!

Yes, let's send SelleckLover to approach the lion in his den. Then he has to hire ALL of us here to be the "creative consultants." I'm not sure we could do the writing, but we could sure come up with the ideas for the writers to build a script around! I think we know the characters better than the people who played them 25 years ago because we have "studied" them and analyzed them a LOT more than those guys ever would have thought of.

Of course, they probably think we're all obsessed psychos . . . . .

golfmobile,
oh well, my family already thinks I'm an obsessed psycho!!!!
Just because I enjoy discussing any aspect of Tom Selleck's life.
I think he is an interesting man.
Nothing unusual about that.
Great idea, we could all be creative consultants.
Sounds like a dream job to me.
Who among us would turn that opportunity down.
Not I.

Okay, which of us psychos has the shower curtain covered with little Tom Selleck faces???

Ohhhhh, SelleckLover . . . . ..

:P  :o :D :)

Now we just gotta figure out a way for Laura San Giacomo to put in a guest appearance. Maybe we can borrow her from "Saving Grace" as a pathologist attending a seminar in DC (having traveled in from Oklahoma) in an episode where one of the (incidental) team members gets murdered. Wouldn't it just be great to have Quigley and Cora back together again?

I, too, was puzzled by the cancellation of Las Vegas. Although I personally thought it wasn't a very good show, it did have okay ratings, and I believe that its numbers improved slightly when TS became a cast member.

My guess is that maybe the show was expensive to make relative to the number of eyeballs it was getting. NBC is doing some unusual moves. Evidently, they plan to do without shooting pilots for new shows, and they claim that they're doing away with the "fall season" and will be developing programs for all of the 52 weeks in a year. I'm not sure just exactly what that means, but I suspect that in order to make their programming budget stretch out to 52 weeks, there will be a lot more reality and game shows coming at us from NBC.

If anybody cares to read more about this, I offer this column from one of my favorite TV critics.
