Hawaii 5-0 Theme: Davis versus HO

#1 Post by Luther's nephew Dobie »

Hi Guys,
Don Ho and Sammy Davis each sang their own versions of the Hawaii 5-0 theme.
I have to admit I like them both, but then again I get a kick out of the lyrics for Hogans Heroes, The Dick Van Dyke
Show and Bonanza.

Here is how the competing Hawaii 5-0 songs are listed on You Tube, sorry I didn't provide a working link here as I am rubbish at tech:

Don Ho - YOU CAN COME WITH ME (Theme from "Hawaii Five-0") + LYRICS
Sammy Davis, Jr - You Can Count On Me (Theme From Hawaii 5-0)

I don't know whose song came out first but there is a whiff of plagiarism in the air here. Anybody else feel there are similarities?

Sammy - If you get in trouble Bring it home to me
Don -  If you're feeling lonely, you can come with me.
Sammy - Whether I am near you.Or across the sea
Don  - Feel my arms around you. Lay beside the sea.

  COMPLETE LYRICS:
 Don Ho's version:
If you're feeling lonely, you can come with me.
Feel my arms around you.
Lay beside the sea.
We will think of something to do,
do it till it's perfect for you and for me, too.
You can come with me.

So leave your world behind you
You can come with me
Sing a song
I'll teach you Live your fantasyyyyyyy
Love ya in a natural way
Doesn't matter what time of day you and I play
You can come with meeeee
Won't cha come with meeee
You can come with meeee.

Sammy Davis's:
You Can Count on Me (Theme from Hawaii Five-O)
 If you get in trouble
Bring it home to me
Whether I am near you
Or across the sea

I will think of something to do
I'll be on the lookout for you
And I'll find you
You can count on me

And don't you let 'em get you
Up against the wall
'Cause I'll be there to catch you
And I won't let you fall

Call me if they hit you below
Call me when there's nowhere to go
And I'll be there
You can count on me (You can count on me)
