Absences of Derek Mitchell and Jake Styles
Does anyone know the reason for the absences of Alan Campbell and Joe Penny in the fifth season of Jake and the Fatman, with Robert Bergi as a replacement? And why did the producers bring in Melody Anderson?

The first four seasons of the show were good. Season 5 was a disaster. Derek is absent for most episodes, and McCabe was absent for two or three. And most of the time he was there he was sitting in a chair. Conrad must have had some serious health problems. Then they oriented the episodes to obviously attract a specifically young female audience, perhaps because of falling ratings. And they introduced Neely Capshaw as virtually a replacement for Jake, whereby she's the focus. These things ruined the show instead of keeping it alive. It's too bad but is just as well. It wasn't the same show anymore.
