Great news! Tales of the Gold Monkey is one of my favorite 80s TV shows.

There are some great extras of this DVD.
Extras: Alongside the five informative documentaries, this HMV-exclusive set include series synopsis, a photo gallery, character biographies, fact file and a fascinating new Making Of documentary which sheds light on the realities of making the programme via interviews with Collins, O'Heaney, writer/producer Tom Greene and director Harvey Laidman.
This is the kind of stuff Magnum should have had. :?

I remember really liking this show back in the day, but I haven't seen it since.

Anybody know if it's still watchable all these years later?

I don't remember this series at all, but it looks good. I think I might pick it up!

(Although it doesn't look like its available in region 1)

This is great news. I have fond memories of watching this on Monday evenings with my father.

It has never been repeated, so I could never make recordings, until a couple of years ago where I bought off-air recordings from a TV fan site. Sadly, most of the episodes were terrible quality and barely watchable.

So now that this is released, I'm over the moon - a really underated series (and one with several MPI ties). I'm ordering my father one as a Christmas present.

I never saw the show either. I may see if I can try and get it on Netflix.

Yeah, I don't think the show ever aired in syndication. It just didn't have enough episodes in the can.

I can't wait to get my hands on this DVD. It's going to be great to see Jake & Corky and the gang again - John Hillerman as Fritz the Monocle, Marta DuBois as Princess Koji, John Calvin as Rev. Tenboom, William Lucking as Gandy Dancer (in an almost identical character as the one he played in "Two Birds of a Feather"), even our favorite Miss Hawaii Ph.D Elizabeth Lindsey makes a couple of appearances.

:)

Pretty strange how there's no Us/Canada release.

It looks like the DVD will be released in Region 1 (U.S.) sometime in spring 2010. :)
