Only took about 6 years to add to this post! I just watched the Maverick episode, "The Saga of Waco Williams". It's a great episode! If you look-up, Wayde Preston, in Wikipedia. it tells how Stephen J Cannell based the Lance White character in The Rockford Files, on the Waco Williams character! Which in turn, got Tom Selleck his role as Magnum!
