Did you know he recorded records when he was in high school? He was making records way back in the 50s if you can believe it:

Here he is in his prime with Ritchie Blackmooe and Rainbow:

And just before he died with Sabbath:

Heck yeah, marlboro! :)

Ronald James Padavona! AKA Dio! Probably the best metal singer of all-time (although Bruce Dickinson would be right there with him, neck and neck)! Incredible pipes and range! Sang with so many different bands over the years! He was older than most of the people he played with. He was already 21 when The Beatles broke big! Holy Diver is the album I will always associate with him. Played that cassette to death! Heaven and Hell, too! :)

Sammy Hagar - Three Lock Box | Baby's on Fire (I think he and Van Halen were better without the other.)

Great pick, MHTR! I still love 5150, though! Great album, great tour! :)

Here's a tie-in with Magnum, from that great final scene in "Going Home" as Magnum visits the Vietnam Memorial. Never get tired of watching The Last Waltz!

Nice, Steve! LOVE that version of "The Weight"! Levon Helm is one of the greatest singers ever! And a darn good actor, too! :)

This is one of my favorite Levon Helm clips, from Letterman in 2009. Doing a killer version of "Tennessee Jed", one of my favorite Dead songs!

Whoever decided to cast Levon Helm as Jack Ridley and the narrator in the masterpiece The Right Stuff was a genius. He was perfect to capture that southern twang speak between Ridley and Yeager that Tom Wolfe claimed most airline pilots use to this day. He is sorely missed!

Steve,
Your taste is impeccable, the Band AND Pop Staples, whose voice was on loan from God, and the Staples singers.
That song will be played 100 years from now.
No moronic rhyming, no rap crap by a clown with no musical ability,
constantly groping his crotch in a apparent fruitless effort to find anything, who for his stage name should take Micro Soft.
Just pros showing how it should be done. Bravo Stevemeister, for that clip.

Thanks, man! Now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for days!... "Round and round. With love we'll find a way just give it time." Aahh! I'm back in Junior High! Classic though! :)

Link Wray: Rumble. This song was banned on quite a few radio stations back in the 50s. The earliest song that I know of that uses distorted power chords, originally released in '58! He influenced a lot of the good guitarists of the late 60s and 70s.

Cool, great Link Wray clip, MHTR! "Rumble" is a rock classic!! :)

Sam, I'm ashamed to admit I've never heard of Rodney Bingenheimer! And after watching that doc, I'm even more ashamed! Shame on me! :) I guess my only defense is that I'm an East Coaster. But still, should have heard about him at some point (being the music lover that I am). I know about KROQ, so I guess I'm not totally lame. ;) "The Mayor of Sunset Strip", really cool! So many great bands in that clip!

I guess I'll bring it back to the East Coast now (we'll just have this game where we swing back and forth between East Coast and West Coast ;) ). Conch, this is you! Long Island's finest! The amazing... Blue... Oyster... Cult! :)

Awesome marlboro man! "Astronomy" is a great song! I don't know Monstervision, but I remember Ultraman! He could kick both Godzilla and Gamera's ass at the same time! :)

Happy St. Paddie's Day everybody! :!:
