There are actually two Rockford episodes that Tom Selleck appears as Lance White. Both great and funny episodes and, the writer/director Steven J. Cannel became a big Selleck fan telling his wife he discovered the next big star of the eighties (From A&E's Biography show on Selleck)

I have the whole Rockford Files collection, and have seen it many times. Lance's naive do-gooder character was the perfect comic foil for Garner's practical and cynical Rockford.
