Ebola in New York City

#1 Post by ConchRepublican »

Yeah . . . It's confirmed. Wonderful.

One more thing to make my commute even more joyful.

All you people living in the hinterlands, be thankful! It seems everyday I'm getting closer to Vasili from The Hunt for Red October and looking to split to Montana to raise rabbits . . .

Flamingo Key "West" works for me. I even named my son after that State (and Joe).........By the way, since NYC's lone wolf axe attack our CPD have started "random" TSA style swab checks of CTA riders bags. By random they have officers on the platforms with counters and pull out every ten riders for the check. What a joke...........

I hate the word "proactive", it sounds like words said in a managers meeting by people who never actually do anything, but what happened to being prepared? Being in front? Cutting off the advance? It sure seems lately like we're overly reacting to things as opposed to dealing with them before they become a problem.

I travel everyday through Penn Station in NYC and work on the Empire State Building block. Going back and forth each day is like going through an East German border crossing . . . cops all over, men in fatigues with machine guns standing around in groups, pop-up check points randomly searching bags or swabbing for explosives.

I hear people say "whatever they need to do to keep us safe" and I don't understand why they'd want to give up that much authority to people they don't know. How do they trust that much? Why is it OK to infringe on our rights/freedoms so long as weren't not infringing on those who aren't American and subscribe to our values and beliefs?

Sorry for the soapbox, it just bugs me and concerns me when we decide to not quarantine a threat for fear of insulting someone or God forbid someone thinking it's based on prejudice. It's like not locking your front door for fear of insulting your neighbors. Sure, deal with a problem once it is inside your house. :higgins:

And now we have another possible case:

Yet we have people who still think like this:

Stunning. Granted, the nurse is doing good work but there are repercussions for everyone's actions. A 21 day minimum quarantine should be policy. And common sense.
