Las Vegas Confession

#1 Post by Miss Q »

OK, its time for me to admit I liked Las Vegas, yes I said liked....

It was a fun friday night mindless show to watch with silly characters.

Sadly, as much as it pains me to admit, I dont like the addition of TS's character. Dont get me wrong - I love watching him weekly in NEW material, but I hate his character and I am not thrilled with his uptight performance on screen.

He just doesn't fit in. I expect so much more from him in his performances. Usually, post MPI, he portrayes a character and makes it believeable. Now he's just reading his lines. He also hasn't seemed to get in the grove with the rest of the cast.

I cant wait till the next Jesse Stone!

I think it is the writers not giving Cooper more substance to his character.
We want to see more and learn more about him.
I thought tonight's show was so funny.
Polly is so funny in whatever she does on the show.
The writer's are spot on for her character.
Hopefully they will put more effort into Cooper when they return.
Also that part about the women kissing and grabbing Terry Bradshaw while Tom Selleck was there would never happen. I don't care if Bradshaw won all the money in the casino. Sorry Terry.
Can't resist that smile :) :) :)

I have to disagree with you on this one. I think that he's doing the best that he can with the poor quality of writing on this show. I think that he's trying to make Cooper a different character from the ones he's done in the past. He probably doesn't want to repeat himself. Last night's episode was the first time we got to see (somewhat) those great acting chops from TS that we all know and love. It kept me interested in the show and I didn't fall asleep once!! But I don't know how long a person would last on the job (if they worked in a casino or any job in real life) if one took care of personal business on company time as much as the other characters do. With Cooper's stern demeanor on the show, I'm surprised he puts up with it. But then again, I know it makes for a more interesting show (sort of) if the story line proceeds outside the casino into their personal lives.
Just thought I'd share! JMHO! :D

I must admit that I enjoyed Cooper's "Aloha" moment during the second hour of this week's episode... seemed like old times! I was pleased to see a lot more of Cooper :D and I read that LV won the rating for both its hours ... but that it's still not certain that NBC will renew it for a 6th season and tie up all the loose ends.

Cooper was great, I liked his Aloha, also.
Thought nbc had really messed up, when Cooper's plane went down.
So glad to see him at the memorial service.
You can finally see both hours on the LV site now.
Hope they have a sixth season.

Since we're all throwing in opinions (and we know what they're like . . . .), I thought I'd throw mine in too. I don't DISLIKE Cooper, but it seems to me he's doing more "Jesse Stone in Las Vegas" than establishing a new character. Though I watch, basically, only for him, I would just like to see more of him and have him lighten up a little bit. I don't see why he has to be such a "mystery" character. Can't there be a few scenes where he actually laughs? I'd love to see the reaction of all the rest of the cast to his goofy laugh! In real life, it seems, whenever he gives an interview, he's always laughing and joking around. Can't they give him a little more of this? His laugh is so infectious and if he ever laughed in the show, then I could see all the young cast starting sort of to laugh AT his laugh and then getting caught up in it and enjoying it.

Also, I thought his showing up at the "wake" when everyone thought he was dead was rather lame. He sees everyone wearing black and asks, not "What's going on?" but "Am I late?" Nonsensical. And Piper's fainting? I thought she would jump and run and hug him, if anyone would. If Piper can keep her cool -- and smart-mouth -- while being a hostage, I don't see her fainting when she finds out Cooper didn't die in the plane crash. And who else WAS on that flight? No one seemed to care about that.

I guess what it boils down to is that TS has so much more appeal in so many other ways and he is being so UNDER-utilized! But then it's not "his" show so maybe he doesn't have as much say-so as he did with MPI. Maybe he's just happy to have a paycheck and play his understated part and laugh all the way to the bank, which seems to be important to him. But he has input with the Jesse Stone movies -- I guess I just don't like his being shuffled off to the side as an adjunct role instead of their getting their money's worth. I think they should have let an episode or two revolve completely around him instead of his always being a supporting role.

I watch and I've come to . . . not be as annoyed as I initially was with the characters. Though I still think Sam should be hit up side da haid with a 2x4 . . . . And HER sudden "marriage" last night? Where did THAT come from? They just needed a third marriage for the title of the show?

Well, I doubt I'll watch the repeats of the series. . . .

You have some really interesting thoughts.
Had to laugh when I read what you said about Sam.
I watch also only to see TS.
I guess Cooper did not notice the large picture of him on his horse,
and I don't think he knew about the plane going down.
We can only hope for a 6th season and I'm sure Tom will take care of the rest.

Yup, 19 episodes (if you count the 2-hour finale as 2 episodes, which it really was, even though they gave it one name). I read that they had 3 more scripts finalized or close to finalized when the Writers strike hit, but only had time to film 19.

I'm hoping that if they make the effort to film those final 3 (and it would be a travesty if they didn't, given all the loose ends and the "to be continued" message at the end of the finale), they'll go on to do a complete Season 6 ... and maybe we'll get one or two more mini-Magnum reunions ...

This time I agree with golfmobile. I'm less annoyed with the other characters now than I was before. But they still sometimes BUG!! I think the producers of the show are fools not to take advantage of a class act like our TS, and utilize him more. Of course, maybe they're keeping him under wraps just to tease us Magnum fans and not alienate the James Caan fans. I've read some of the comments on the NBC/Las Vegas blog and there are some people that actually want Caan back and to get rid of TS. (Those people are obviously demented in my opinion!) With a cliff-hanger like the last episode they HAVE to renew it for a 6th season!

And just for laughs, I'd like to add that I think Josh Duhamel would be terrific as Magnum if he was cast in the Magnum movie.
