Is Higgins close to death or is the specific reason why he's disapeared from the public eye?

Its part of being a celebrity and being a highly visible actor. Hillerman chose the profession and I doubt he regrets is much if at all.

If I saw him on the street, I would say. "Aww Come On Higgins". Just to see if he would turn around. Then I would get him to hook up with the others!!
Higgins: " Dispatch the pig!!! "
