Yesterday I watched The Carey Treatment (1972), which I happened to record off Turner Classic Movies. I was pleasantly surprised when John Hillerman's name showed up in the beginning credits. He appeared in one scene as a doctor conducting an autopsy, opposite James Coburn and a few others. He played it very well.
Also in the movie with a major recurring part, was James Hong, or he who talks of two-legged wolves.
See if you can find out when he goes out to get the morning paper. You could then just "happen" to be walking by just as he retrieves the paper, and strike up a conversation with him. "Hey, you wouldn't to be John Hillerman by any chance? ... Oh wow, I'm a big fan. I can't believe I just ran into you here in the Houston suburbs!"
LOL! I really, really hope that Mr. Hillerman has family, or at least friends, that are taking care of him. It'd really depress me to find out he has no one he can rely on for help and assistance and I sure wouldn't want to come across as trying to earn his favor for any less than honorable reasons. That man has provided me enough entertainment to last me the rest of my life. In an odd way, vicariously through the magic of the tv medium, I really do love that man and the joy his talents have brought me. M.P.I. would not be as great as it is without Mr. Hillerman.
Just remembered this---Mr.Hillerman narrated a 2 hour A&E documentary back in the late 90's titled, 'Sink The Bismarck!' I know I have the VHS somewhere. His voice is somewhat Higgins-esque,yet toned down somewhat. A signature voice indeed, right up there with James Earl Jones.
