The location looks right, and at the very end of whatever that is in the photo looks like the square slab.

I think that jetty (which I assume the "pillbox/slab was to support) is too far up the beach from where the "slab" is in the tidal pool. Looking at the pic, the gate to the beach is where the man is running. The "slab" would most likely be right behind that thicket of palms, more next to the man running than in the distance.

I believe that jetty is much further up the beach and closer, if not part of, the public beach.

Hi ConchRepublican,

I agree that the jetty is past the estate's boundary line and most likely it was part of the Shriners Beach Club, however the slab was located almost directly off of the guesthouse.Blue X is the running mans approximate spot.

Of all the MPI mysteries we've solved over the past few years, this one seems to be the most elusive.

If anything, it looks like a dock extending out for boats that have a deep draft. I remember in Rick Romer's blog he had been told that Eve Anderson's grandparents used to arrive at the estate by boat in the 30's because the Kalanianaole Highway wasn't completed yet. However, it looks to me like the structure is further down the beach, beyond the boat house. Not that they couldn't have used the neighboring dock, or perhaps it was all their property as has been speculated on previously.

It certainly does look like a pillbox, whether or not it was originally on that spot. The top could have had a steel hatch, no? It certainly makes for a nice place to sun yourself and might have been moved there for that purpose. Great mystery, though!

Not sure if this is the same thing that is in the tidal pool, but it's similar in size and structure. It's also very close to the water. What are these things??

I would reckon that one is a pill box.
See here for some Oahu examples: http://www.pillbox-study-group.org.uk/c ... oxpage.htm

Is it? Do they fill in the openings with concrete? I know we can't see the other side of it, but don't they usually put the access hole in the backside? If so, it's been filled in. All of the Oahu pillboxes that I've seen have the slits/openings undisturbed. The one in the tidal pool even has an opening on the top, which appears to be highly unusual for a pillbox (and rightfully so).

What we really need is for someone to inspect the base of the "slab", the part that is underwater. If anyone that is reading this is planning on taking a trip to the Estate, bring along a mask and maybe an underwater camera. ;)

I'll be there in 2 weeks and bring a mask (sorry no underwater cam).

I am afraid, that the base will be deeply in the sand but I'll try to dig a bit when underwater. Anything particular that I should be looking for?

I agree Sam, I was speaking more from a visual perspective from the shot supplied.

Guys, I am currently on the Island and have been spending the entire day in the tidal pool.

Weather was not brilliant, so, won't post pics yet, hopefully in the next 2 days, it will be better.

I have been asking one of the Park keepers from the picnic park 3 houses far down about the concrete slab.

He told me, that around WWII, they used that for keeping live lobsters when they had huge events going on at the estate.

He also told me, that the base is wider and had steel poles to function like a kind of prison for the lobsters.

I have been diving down, the water was only 0,8 meters deep and the concrete slab is deeper in the sand than I could dig.

But the man (who also knows Eve A.) sounded credible, he knows a lot about the history of this particular place and does everything without getting a single buck.

Have also been to Agatha's home, a very nice neighborhood!

Special thanks go to Sam, who helped me a lot for planning all this I may write a report a bit later
