Fourth Wall

#1 Post by 308GTS »

OK, this topic will separate the Men from the Boys and the Ladies from the Girls.

How many times has Magnum broken the fourth wall?

This is a toughie and perhaps only those as dedicated as IslandHopper or Doc Ibold will have an answer...!

Good Luck

Have to agree that it was pretty often, but two specifics come to mind: the last look back in Limbo, when Higgins is telling TM to come back and the very last scence in Resolutions (II).
Higgins: You've washed the car?! How extraordinary. Why would you do such a thing?

162 episodes...... I am going to estimate that he broke the fourth wall in 1/3 of them, so, my guess is: 54 times. Now, if you consider his narration part of breeaking the wall, then it would be much higher.......

Wow,

You guys have really put me to the test!

I'm going to go with the Steve formula, but I'll say about 1/4 the episodes. (It happened MUCH more in the earlier seasons and somewhat tapered off towards the end).

Its always interesting to see Higgins and TC do it in the earlier episodes, as it looks like it was meant to be a device that all of the characters utilized, but pretty much panned out to TS doing it exclusively.

I've never seen (or can't recall) an instance where Rick did it..

Now I'm going to have to check for that!

(But this'll require a lot more time than my "kills" tally)

I watched Rembrandt's Girl the other day and TM pulls off one in the vault. Very funny.
Icepick - Does it ever occur to you that you are always having to bail your friend Magnum out of trouble?

I don't recall Rick doing this either. In which episode did TC do it?

It was in season 1, and he breaks it and say "Doesn't it occur to you that that boy cannot count past one" I want to say its in Robins Nest, possibly "Thank Heavens For Little Girls and Big Ones too"

Higgins breaks it a few times too during the first 2 seasons, but kind of subtly.

I'm pretty sure TC did it more than once.

T.C. did it in "The Curse of the King Kamehameha Club"....

Like Doc said, I think he did 3 or 4 times, but I can't recall where the others took place. Higgins did a couple of times, I believe. I don't recall Rick doing it at all.

Regarding Magnum, if I had to guess I would say ~ 40 times, give or take. This would be looking at the camera, not just straight up narration.
