Close Jellyman, but no Montecristo. That one has the kangaroo pocket, but the pockets on Magnum's are fitted into the seam at the side of the shirt. Sort of like jacket pockets, rather than one long front pocket. It's a real weird one.
It's JellyWOman ty ;)

There are actually at least two different styles of rugby jerseys with pockets that magnum wears.
This style as Pahonu mentioned,
http://magnum-mania.com/images/2_12_n.jpg (sry don't know how to add picture)
and the one with the sorta concealed pockets you mentioned.

I reckon the OP is talking about the former as it's more like your typical hooded jumper pocket, yeah? Though I don't know if I've seen it in purple, but pretty sure he wore the pink one in The Return of Luther Gillis as mentioned by the OP. The one I found is about as close to the pink one as you'll get these days, close enough for me anyway... now just to find it for sale *sigh*

I searched google images for "rugby logo" and "rugby patch" etc. and even navy seal patch and surface warfare patch but didn't discover anything. Here's some close ups:

The crest is similar to a vintage Polo Ralph Lauren crest:

Thanks for the closeups RC!

Hmm, could be Dan, could be. Although the crest does look slightly different. The letters look different, too. It looks like an 'A' and 'M', maybe, but it's hard to tell for sure!

I was initially thinking maybe it was some sort of military insignia?? Do people put military insignia or coat of arms on polo shirts??

Thanks Dan, crest is probably the better term.

I did some searches alternating between "polo crest" and "rugby crest", with words before them such as 80s, vintage, Hawaii, Oahu, and even Outrigger Canoe Club, but didn't find a match.

We could ask about it at a vintage polo / rugby forum, if such a place exists...

No worries, guys. I think the shoulder pads on this polo are probably what it give it away as Ralph Lauren.
This is almost the same shirt, just a few things are different: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0638261480

I'd go so far as to guess that this is what the Ralph Lauren crest/shield thingy looked like in the early 80s and it was refined as time went on. It's all made up faux-historical stuff anyway- the label has only been around since the late 60s.

Didn't Ralph Lauren sponsor the show anyway? I remember reading that originally Selleck wore Lacoste, but they wouldn't pay, so Ralph Lauren got the gig?

That's what I'm betting on.

BTW IKnowWhatYoureThinking, just noticed your title thingy, is macho Taco actually a real restaurant, or was it ever? I remember googling it once and stumbling upon a Macho Taco near me in Australia but nothing American...?

It was just a Magnum thing, but I'd like to think there is a macho taco out there somewhere we could all try! I'd like to have an actual Coops too, but if it was anything like a Coors I'd be disappointed.

I wonder if the owner's of this place
http://machotaco.com.au/
were Magnum fans? :D Doesn't sound like magnum style macho taco though...

Just had a quick google about Coors - never heard of it before - but stumbled upon this and clearly some other forum members have too
http://magnumdecorator.blogspot.com/200 ... stuff.html
So does this mean the logo in question in this thread would have to have been altered or made-up altogether?

Applogies m'lady. There seems to be men here than women so that's where my assumption goes with an androgynous user name!

I bought a red, blue, burgundy and green one of these from Land's End. No snazzy hand-warmer pockets, though.

...and that, as they say, is the hell of it.

I was shopping around for a rugby with front pouch for my boyfriend (but it's really me that is obsessed with Magnum ;-)
here is the only one I found. https://m.nautica.com/products/4036224

it's a Nautica, so it's kinda pricey. I would love to find more like it!
